‘Dangerous’ bitcoin thief on the free after escaping jail twice in a single week

Daniel Boakye had already been thrown in jail on two separate occasions and was due to be deported from the UK back to Ghana – but has since gone on the run for a third time

A prisoner deemed to be “dangerous” to the public is on the loose again after escaping prison twice times in just one week. He is due to be deported from the UK, but has since gone missing after escaping hospital.

Daniel Boakye, 21, was put in prison on suspicion of being behind a number of knifepoint robberies in London last week. But after being locked up at HMP Feltham, he was able to make two different dashes to freedom and has not been seen since Sunday (February 15).

Now, police are launching an urgent appeal to help find the missing drill rapper and suspected gang member. Members of the public are being urged not to approach Boakye, as police are now on the hunt to track him down.

The Sun reported that Boakye had gone missing after he had managed to escape from West Middlesex University Hospital in London last Tuesday (February 10). He was eventually found by police at an address in southeast London the following afternoon.

However, on Sunday (February 15), he is believed to have escaped the custody of the Met Police, with a spokeswoman for the force now calling for the public’s help in trying to find him. She explained: “We are searching for a 21-year-old man who absconded from Lewisham Hospital at around 15:05hrs on Sunday, 15 February.

“Daniel Boakye was in police custody at the hospital receiving medical treatment when he fled,” she continued. “Officers gave chase but could not detain Boakye before he left the building.

“He is 21 years old, black, of medium height and slim build. He was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket when he absconded.

“We are currently reviewing this incident to fully understand the events which unfolded. The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards is aware.”

Boakye had already been on the Met Police’s radar and following his initial prison stint, he had been due to be deported to Ghana. According to government officials, Boakye’s deportation is still being “actively pursued”.

As well as Boakye’s arrest, police also detained two women aged 20 and 51, a 17-year-old girl and a 30-year-old man all on suspicion of assisting an offender. The investigation into these arrests remains ongoing.

Boakye, from Enfield in North London, had been sentenced to a prison sentence of six years and five months back in July of 2023. He was convicted of carrying out a slew of knifepoint robberies, alongside three other people.

In total, Daniel and his cronies were responsible for stealing as much as £115,000 worth of cryptocurrency across London. The attacks are believed to have taken place over a six-month period from June of 2021 and January 2022, which saw the perps force their victims to hand over their phones and passcodes.
