School bus ‘with 40 kids’ overturns in crash as children ‘climb by home windows’

Emergency services raced to the scene after a school bus beleived to be carrying 40 children crashed this Tuesday afternoon (February 17).

Police along with ambulance and fire crews were called to reports of a collision on the Tullyah Road in Belleeks, Co Armagh shortly before 3:45pm.

It’s understood that the school bus had turned on its side at the scene, reports BelfastLive. Eyewitnesses said children were seen climbing out of the bus through the windows and roof.

Dáithí Murray, principal of St Paul’s High School in Bessbrook, has confirmed that the children involved are safe and have been collected by their parents.

In a letter to parents, he said the incident would have caused “significant shock” to pupils who were on board.

He said: “I would encourage pupils, if they feel well enough, to attend school tomorrow where staff will signpost them to the support services available.

“The thoughts and prayers of the St Paul’s community are extended to everyone affected by this serious incident today.”
