Adult creator ‘by no means despatched specific photograph’ to a boyfriend earlier than coming into business

Many would be surprised by the resilience Skylar Mae, one the most popular adult content creators, has already built at such a young age. The 21-year-old is among the top paid influencers on a notable adult content platform.

Selling explicit content to millions of fans worldwide, she has quickly risen as an adult star. But Skylar wears many hats.

She recently opened up about spending up to five hours a day chatting with a terminally ill subscriber, receiving a staggering $102,000 (£75,400) for providing spicy companionship. Skylar, who admitted chatting to the ailing man on a daily basis, is not unfamiliar with taking care of others, in fact, many rely on her career’s earnings.

“I take on too much responsibility,” Skylar exclusively told the Daily Star. “Too much.”

She further confessed: “When people come to me with illnesses though, I definitely have a very soft spot. When my parents have been through things, like my mom has had thyroid cancer, lupus, and they’ve always been ill since I was a kid.

“I’ve always been raised taking care of my parents and then bringing it into my work, but I think it’s good. I like to help people.

“I take on too much responsibility”

“I’m always there. [If] my parents need anything. They live 15 minutes down the street. I go over there and I help them when necessary.”

Many tend to dehumanise the content creator behind the sensual and glamorous pictures, but Skylar has shown pride in her accomplishments and multi-faceted life, including struggles. In fact, the same struggles motivated Skylar to persevere in the adult industry.

“I got into [popular adult content platform] and explicit content to make money [because] my parents had such bad health issues and they were having such a hard time keeping up with my sister and I, and paying for their bills,” she said.

“At the end of the day, I viewed it as like I can help my parents,” Skylar continued. “I still help my parents and it’s like the greatest thing ever.

“Just that alone motivated me to keep going to do it.” She added: “Now it doesn’t bother me at all. I’m very happy that I ended up going down this path and I’ve been able to help my parents.”

“I never sent an explicit photo to a boyfriend”

Before launching her adult content career, Skylar had never considered making explicit content. In fact, the Arizona habitant was pursuing a more traditional path, attending dental school and working jobs like nannying and being a personal assistant.

She said: “I would never think in a million years I would do adult content. I never sent an explicit photo to a boyfriend or anything. That just wasn’t what I was into at all.”

Skylar’s content is so popular that she now has the capability to make as much as £800,000 in a single day. Nevertheless, her entry into the career was unexpected; it began when someone invited her to a content creation event during the pandemic lockdown.

She recalled: “I was actually in dental school and someone reached out to me…nothing to do about adult content like at all. So I was like, ‘Yeah, sure’.

“It was like right before COVID when it was still kind of a lockdown period. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m bored.

“It makes me happy, making people happy”

“‘I’ll go to California and do that’.” What started as a casual experiment soon evolved, as she found herself gradually making more explicit content over time.

She said: “At first when I started too, I was like, ‘Okay, like I’ll just make content and just wear lingerie.’ And then it just progressed month over month.”

The model, who has millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram, has grown a loyal group of admirers. In fact, this has become one of her favourite things.

Skylar revealed: “Connecting with the fans and building a fan base. … making content that people enjoy watching is probably my favourite thing. And getting to deliver the content that everyone wants to see, it makes me happy, making people happy.”

While her career has brought Skylar financial stability and the ability to help her family, she has also pointed out the challenges and misconceptions that come with the platform. Especially for younger girls who see viral creators on social media glamourising the lifestyle.

She consequently warned that the job is far from easy, explaining: “People think it’s the easiest job in the world. I think because [some] really large creators promote that it is an easy job, but like it is not.

“You have to know your risks”

“The real creators that actually do adult content and aren’t scamming people… it is such a hard job.” Skylar also cautioned that not everyone gets rich quickly, saying: “These girls are on TikTok getting children audiences to believe, ‘Oh, if I sign up for [popular adult content platform], I could be a millionaire’, which is totally not the case at all.”

For those considering joining, she advised: “You have to know your risks and if you want to take it, great. If not, what I always tell people too is try something, try a couple things first and then get into the industry.

“I will always say try some stuff first.” Skylar has also remained strongheaded in her job, never taking a day off and always reminded of why she is so dedicated to some of her fans.

“The fact that my parents are really ill people and they’ve spent time in the hospital for long periods of time, I know how it feels, especially when people don’t come and visit you, and you’re going through procedures constantly,” Skylar admitted. “That’s where I’ve really built a soft spot for [the terminally ill fan].”

She further stated: “The fact that he’s just so lonely and people do not come and visit him. He’s just so thankful to have someone to sit and talk to him all day.

“He loves my dogs. Literally loves my dogs so much.”

“He’s just so lonely”

For Skylar, the most rewarding interactions are those that go beyond the surface: “It’s nice too having a subscriber that doesn’t just want to see naked content 24/7. He wants to actually get to know me.

“He wants to see my dogs. He wants to know about my family.

“What I’m eating for food, just like normal conversation, which is really nice. It’s different from the normal stuff my subscribers ask.”

Many of her clients are older and lonely, and she said: “It makes me very sad honestly. But I have a lot of people that are similar to [the terminally ill fan], but he sticks out just because he’s terminally ill and my parents are very ill people.

“I have a very soft spot for him.” She quipped: “I swear I’m like I’m either a sex therapist or I’m just like a regular therapist.

“I’m like always there to make, I wouldn’t say necessarily a therapist, but I definitely help people feel good and feel better not to be so alone.” Helping others brings her a sense of fulfillment.

She admitted: “I honestly I totally would [consider becoming a psychologist] because it makes me feel good helping other people.” Ultimately, when asked if she could see herself as a nurse, she didn’t hesitate: “Honestly. Yeah, I would.

“I would love to help people, especially bedside like I’m always there.”
