‘Attempted homicide’ close to Bristol Airport as two males ‘attacked’ and 5 arrested

Two men are currently in hospital following an alleged attack near Bristol Airport this morning (February 21). Five people have since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The incident happened on the A38 and was reported to Avon and Somerset Police at around 8.25am. Multiple vehicles were damaged in a crash, which is believed to have led to a confrontation.

Two men were allegedly attacked and are undergoing treatment in hospital. Neither are believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on the M5 northbound in the Gloucestershire area and remain in custody, reports BristolLive.

Superintendent Jen Appleford said: “We are aware this incident will have caused concern in our communities, but we can reassure residents we do not believe there to be any wider risk to the public as we believe those involved are known to each other, are from outside of our force area and this was a self-contained incident.

“We responded promptly and deployed multiple resources to the scene which enabled the incident to be resolved swiftly, and we now have five people in custody and will be carrying out CCTV and forensic enquiries while investigations continue.”

Avon and Somerset Police are now asking for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We have arrested five people in connection with a serious assault on the A38 near Bristol Airport which was reported to us at around 8.25am this morning (Saturday 21 February).

“Multiple vehicles were damaged after being involved in a collision before a confrontation took place.

“Two men have been taken to hospital and are undergoing treatment, and neither is believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

“The five men were arrested [on suspicion of attempted murder] on the M5 northbound in the Gloucestershire area and remain in custody at this time.

“There was some minor traffic disruption on the A38 near the airport while emergency services responded to the incident and emergency services remain at the scene.
