Andrew ‘compromised’ by Russian spies as scandal questions ‘nationwide safety’ says professional
As disgraced ex-prince Andrew Mountbatten Windsor continues to be embroiled in scandal, one author has said he believes Russian intelligence could have broken him
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor could have been intercepted by Russian spies during his time as a trade envoy, one author has claimed. It comes as Andrew continues to be embroiled in scandals.
Disgraced ex-prince Andrew is hiding from public view after being infamously arrested on Thursday (February 19) on his 66th birthday. Meanwhile, other high-ranking officials such as Lord Mandelson have also been brought in for questioning surrounding their associations with Jeffrey Epstein.
Now, one author has said that Andrew’s time as Britain’s trade envoy could have caused national security issues that are now being felt. He also suggested that even China could have been using him for information, in what is the latest blow to the former royal.
Appearing on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored show, royal author Andrew Lownie said that the scandal was already highlighting problems with how the country was under threat. He said: “I’ve got quite a lot of material from the intelligence officials with reports on Andrew, corruption, dated in fact, January this year, talking about his involvement and how he’d been compromised by Russian intelligence. And we’ve always had these Chinese spies around him, the alleged spy.
“So I think this is the way the thing is going,” he continued. “I’m getting more information about military secrets and other secrets that seem to have been divulged, as well as commercial ones.”
Lownie, who has already written a scathing book on Andrew and his family, has said that this problem is going to stick around for quite some time. He added that no one within the Royal Family will be able to escape it scot-free — including King Charles himself.
“I’ve had scores of people come to me since the book was published in August, very close to Andrew and other members of the royal family, with stories,” Lownie said. “I think we may get more victims coming forward and as police conduct their investigations, not just into misconduct in public life but sex-trafficking and I would argue this is a national security question.”
He continued: “I think there are signs he gave away secrets to foreign powers and that the royal family was penetrated by the Russian and Chinese intelligence services, because there was no oversight or accountability. This is going to go on for years and open up a huge can of worms and it’s going to get closer and closer to the King.”
The author, who penned the book ‘Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York’ also blasted police officers for refusing to cooperate with journalists. He went on to claim that pressure was being put on police in order to allow the royals to avoid the scandal, and demanded that Kier Starmer fully investigate these actions.
“Officials going to the Palace and being told, just, ‘the Queen isn’t interested’ and being sent away with a flea in their ear,” he exclaimed. “What became clear to me, Andrew didn’t operate on his own, there was a huge network of people enabling him, not just his staff but senior officials; I would like to see a Parliamentary inquiry.”
Andrew has not publicly commented following the latest release of the Epstein files last month. However, he has previously strenuously denied all allegations being made against him.
