Armed police swarm Leeds General Infirmary after ‘taking pictures’ as cordon put in place

Armed police at a major hospital in West Yorkshire sparked panic as the force swarmed the area last night (February 24). Officers from West Yorkshire Police were seen inside and outside at Leeds General Infirmary as a cordon was put in place at the one of the hospitals entrances.
Despite unconfirmed reports of a shooting taking place at the hospital, West Yorkshire Police have now spoken out on the rumours and confirmed a man had been injured with a firearm. However, the incident did not take place on the grounds of Leeds General Infirmary.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that two arrests have been made and a cordon was put in place.
In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: “We have been made aware of speculation on social media regarding police activity outside the Leeds General Infirmary.
“Officers were called shortly after 5.30pm by hospital staff after a man in his late twenties presented at the hospital with injuries consistent with a firearm discharge. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
“The incident did not occur at the hospital or on its grounds, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of what took place and how the man came to be injured. Two men have been arrested, and a police cordon is in place.”
