BREAKING Championship membership brutally sack supervisor after 44 days as they battle relegation
West Brom have sacked Eric Ramsay after just 44 days and nine games at the helm, with the Baggies slipping perilously near the drop zone having failed to claim a single win during his tenure.
The 34-year-old was given the position in January, arriving from MLS outfit Minnesota United, but the ex-Manchester United coach couldn’t provide the required boost following his appointment as Ryan Mason’s successor. The club now faces hunting for its fourth boss in only 14 months and their third this campaign.
Ramsay assumed control when the Hawthorns outfit occupied 18th position, yet displays have since declined further, with Tuesday’s 1-1 stalemate against Charlton leaving them floundering in 21st spot, just one point above the relegation places.

A club statement read: “West Bromwich Albion have parted company with men’s first team head coach Eric Ramsay. Assistant head coach Dennis Lawrence has also departed The Hawthorns. First-team coach James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis.”
Ramsay’s short and dismal spell in the Midlands began with a 3-2 loss to Middlesbrough, and things deteriorated dramatically when his team were hammered 5-0 by Norwich – the club’s heaviest home result outside the top flight on record. Ramsay offered a defiant reply during what would turn out to be his last press conference.
He told BBC WM: “The question around my job and the future is never one I can ever answer or attempt to answer.

“I can only do what I can do over the course of a day and put my head on the pillow at night feeling I’ve turned over every stone. I’m not saying I’m blameless – I can only feel I’ve controlled what I can control.”
Amongst the dark moments of Ramsay’s short reign was a costly loss to fellow relegation rivals Portsmouth, an embarrassing FA Cup elimination by Norwich, and Saturday’s defeat to Championship leaders Coventry.
West Brom have battled to establish consistency in the hot seat since Carlos Corberan’s departure to Valencia. The Spaniard had made his mark during his time there, but after his exit, the club appointed Tony Mowbray, who was sacked before the previous campaign had even finished, before gambling on Mason, which also proved unsuccessful.
The Baggies enjoyed more than a decade as a Premier League side after initially securing promotion in 2002. They managed just one season in the top division in 2020/21 before going down, staying in the Championship since then.
Incredibly, it has been 33 years since the club last fell into the third tier of English football.
