A footballer has spoken out after breaking off his engagement just days after getting down on one knee

A footballer has split from his girlfriend just days after popping the question to her on the pitch.
Derrikson Quiros, a midfielder for Xelaju MC in Guatemala, went viral after proposing to his partner, Wendy Nicole, in front of thousands of fans following a 4-2 victory over Marquense.
Amid moving scenes at the Mario Camposeco Stadium in Quetzaltenango, Quiros got down on one knee and produced a ring, which the content creator was only too glad to accept before showing it off to fans and media.
“My life partner, I love you so much,” Quiros later wrote on Instagram to his fiancée, with fans and followers quick to send messages of congratulations at what appeared to be the start of a bright new chapter in their lives.

Sadly, however, their engagement lasted less time than a Nottingham Forest manager, with the Costa Rican confirming just three days later that they had broken up. Quiros wrote on Instagram: “It was a very difficult personal situation, like any breakup, but I prefer to handle the situation with respect and maturity.”
Declining to go into the reasons for the split, he added: “I’m not going to speak ill of anyone or go into details about our breakup, because at the time it was a very important relationship for me.”
On the bright side, Xelaju MC have made an excellent start to the season in the Guatemalan top-flight, sitting fourth after eight games and just four points off top spot.
After a breathtakingly short engagement, Quiros says he now wants to focus on his career, presumably minus the on-pitch displays of romance. He said: “I’m on my way to the most abundant and successful season of my life, with God’s help. Amen. I am now focused on my career, my team, and continuing to grow as a person.

“I appreciate everyone’s support and hope they can respect this moment. Thank you.”
Quiros appears to have moved on quickly, reportedly deleting all images of his now ex-partner from his social media accounts. As for Nicole, who goes by the alias of ‘La Tica Feliz’ on social media and boasts 37,000 followers on TikTok, she has made all of her accounts private.
