Martin Lewis ‘Saturday at 11.59pm’ Tesco alert issued to hundreds of thousands of shoppers
The team at Money Saving Expert issues warning over £11 million worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers
Tesco customers with a Clubcard are being warned to carry out a crucial check this week to avoid missing out. Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert (MSE) team has issued an urgent alert, advising shoppers to log onto the Tesco Clubcard website or app before Sunday, March 1.
Over 24 million people in the UK now have a Tesco Clubcard. The loyalty program, which turned 30 in 2025, is used by more than 80% of households in the UK. The Clubcard app has around 16.3 million users worldwide, with most of them being in the UK.
Clubcard holders are being told to examine their accounts without delay, as MSE warns that vouchers worth £11 million are set to expire at 11.59pm on Saturday, February 28. In an urgent post shared on X, MSE declared: “Urgently check if you’re about to lose your Clubcard vouchers – many expire this Saturday (28 February)!”
For customers not prepared to use their points just yet, there’s a workaround that can boost the lifespan of these vouchers by a further two years, MSE says. Clubcard vouchers normally remain valid for just two years from when they’re issued.
Paper voucher holders can verify the expiry date that’s printed on them directly. Should you have mislaid your paper versions or remain uncertain about what’s available, you can verify this through the Tesco Clubcard website or app:
- Online: Visit the Tesco Clubcard website, navigate to ‘Clubcard account’, and then ‘Vouchers’. You will need a registered Tesco.com account and your Clubcard number (found on your Clubcard or key fobs) to view a table listing your available vouchers and their expiry dates.
- App: Open the Tesco app, go to ‘Clubcard’, and select the ‘Vouchers’ section.
Should your Clubcard vouchers be approaching expiry and you wish to delay spending them, you might be able to extend their lifespan by another two years. This extension needs to be completed by 11.59 pm on Saturday, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The technique, which MSE successfully trialled this week, requires creating fresh vouchers with updated expiry dates. Tesco Clubcard vouchers deliver maximum bang for your buck when you exchange them for double or triple their value through over 100 Reward Partners.
This encompasses fun days out at destinations like Alton Towers and picture houses, meals at establishments such as PizzaExpress and Bella Italia, plus travel deals including hotels.com and Eurotunnel. Alternatively, you can redeem them straight away for your weekly shop, petrol, or a Disney+ subscription.
How to prolong your Tesco Clubcard vouchers:
Whilst there’s no minimum purchase requirement, the aim is to spend as little as feasible, perhaps a 50p restaurant voucher (valued at up to £1.50 at the eatery). Bear in mind that this method needs to be applied to each separate voucher.
Shoppers should weigh up whether the hassle justifies smaller sums, like a few £1 vouchers, compared to a more substantial £10 voucher.
Highlighting a technical warning, MSE noted: “Technically, under the Clubcard T&Cs, Tesco can refuse a Reward Partner order if it decides you’re trying to game the system by redeeming vouchers just to extend their validity – but we tested the trick at MoneySavingExpert.com Towers this week and it worked just fine.”
How can you boost the worth of your Tesco Clubcard vouchers?
MSE clarifies: “Once you’ve found your vouchers, one option is to just spend them at Tesco, where a £5 voucher (for example) gets you £5 off your shopping. But you can massively boost your vouchers’ value by spending them at Tesco’s Reward Partners instead. Currently, you can get:
“Double value (£5 voucher = £10 to spend) at Alton Towers, Disney+, Hotels.com and lots more. Triple value (£5 voucher = £15 to spend) at any of these restaurant chains: ASK Italian, Bella Italia, Frankie and Benny’s, Las Iguanas, Pizza Express, Prezzo Italian, or Zizzi.”
