Blood-soaked lady bumped into McDonald’s after associate stamped on head at 18th social gathering
Lee Regan, 24, stamped on his partner’s head until she was unconscious in a brutal assault fuelled by laughing gas before turning up at her daughter’s 18th birthday party brandishing a knife
A brutal thug repeatedly stamped on his partner’s head until she lost consciousness before wrecking her daughter’s 18th party by turning up with a knife. High on nitrous oxide and driven by jealousy, Lee Regan left the woman severely wounded in a prolonged assault during which he also slashed her with a blade.
After the victim escaped with serious injuries, Regan then headed to her Newcastle property, where her teenage daughter and mates were marking her milestone birthday. Party-goers ended up fleeing in terror after he wielded his weapon and declared he was going to harm people.
Now Regan, who has 51 previous convictions, has been jailed at Newcastle Crown Court. The court heard Regan had been in an on-off relationship with the woman for around three years before the attack, which happened on November 7 last year. They had been to his brother’s home socialising and Regan had been inhaling laughing gas and drinking alcohol.
Regan brought up the subject of the woman’s ex partner and, knowing he was jealous, she tried to defuse matters by leaving the room. Worried about what would happen, she also began drinking heavily, reports Chronicle Live.
Having been rebuffed in her suggestion they should leave, she was then subject to a sustained and vicious attack, her memory of which is hazy after she was left unconscious having been stamped to the head. She ultimately escaped the property and sought assistance at a nearby McDonald’s, where she arrived in a distraught condition, severely wounded and covered in blood.
The court was told she suffered “enormous” facial swelling, widespread bruising and multiple injuries.
Rachel Butt, prosecuting, said: “She said her head had been stamped on and her arm cut with a knife. She said she lost consciousness at the scene and vomited numerous times.
“She had bruises all over her body, a laceration to her arm and a laceration to her ear.”
Shortly after the assault, Regan made his way to the woman’s residence, where her daughter was celebrating her 18th birthday party. Miss Butt said: “She saw the defendant brandishing a knife and he told her to get everybody out of the house, saying he had bashed her mother because she had been cheating and he was going to hurt people.”
The court was shown footage depicting terrified partygoers fleeing the scene, with Regan pursuing them whilst still wielding the blade.
Referencing a victim impact statement from his ex-partner, Miss Butt said: “She felt broken as a result of this incident. She thought she had everything she wanted with him but that disappeared with this offence.”
Regan evaded capture for a week before officers discovered him in a rear garden concealed between a shed and fence. The 24-year-old, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to GBH, affray and possessing a bladed article.
He was sentenced to three years behind bars. Recorder Felicity Davies told him: “You attacked her and carried out what, from the pictures and the account of the victim, was a prolonged and very violent attack. You stamped on her head and cut her arm and ear with a knife.
“She had lost consciousness at the scene, she had significant swelling, black eyes, bruising all over her body and lacerations to her arm and ear.
“The photographs show very significant and substantial swelling to her face. She was unable to open her eyes and had been bleeding heavily from the injuries caused to her by the knife.
“This was a particularly nasty offence. It was highly dangerous.”
Shada Mellor, defending, said Regan had endured a troubled upbringing, was placed in care and added: “He has expressed remorse. He says he is disgusted by his actions and ashamed.
“The relationship he was in has now ended as a result of this.”
Miss Mellor added that Regan had completed a half marathon whilst behind bars in the gymnasium to raise funds for a charity.
