The premise follows DCI Ellis and her assistant DS Chet Harper (Andrew Gower) as they are sent to assist in failing investigations at police stations in northern England.
Meanwhile, fans now get a look at series two, which is set to drop on March 10 and March 11.
A synopsis for series two teases: ‘Fresh from her victories in series one, DCI Ellis is once again parachuted into failing cases across the north of England.
‘With Harper at her side, she faces a new wave of fractured communities and suspicious deaths that test not only her forensic brilliance but her resilience.
Ellis dropped the first trailer for its second series – as the show’s return date is finally confirmed to viewers
The premise follows DCI Ellis and her assistant DS Chet Harper (Andrew Gower) as they are sent to assist in failing investigations at police stations in northern England
‘The series takes them from a rural village, where the suspicious death of a beloved community leader exposes long-nursed resentments, to the industrial shadow of a stone works, where the death of a young woman reveals a hidden network of coercion and exploitation.
‘Every case peels back layers of silence, ambition, and betrayal.’
Speaking at the start of the trailer, DCI Ellis is heard saying: ‘How to kill a man in public and get away with it.’
She continues: ‘It’s all about hiding the evidence in plain sight.’
Turning to Harper, DCI Ellis remarks: ‘It’s a Godfather move. Don’t tell me you’ve never seen the Godfather.’
In a tease for what’s to come, the protagonist is also shown saying that a young woman has been killed.
Ellis concludes with: ‘Ambition and obsession, corrupting everything around you.
‘We make choices, and when things don’t go to plan, you do whatever it takes to fix them.
‘This is a murder investigation, and I am going to do whatever it takes to solve it.’
Previously addressing what sets Vera apart from similar programmes such as Vera, lead writer Sian Ejiwunmi-Lee Berre said: ‘A lot of big detective shows are very site-specific.
The popular detective drama stars Sharon D Clarke and Andrew Gower in the leading roles
‘Whether it’s Death in Paradise, Midsomer Murders, or even Inspector Morse, it’s about the place.
‘This is about her. And she brings her very specific understanding of how people work to wherever she goes; her mantra is that everything is made different by love, fear, hate, or anger, and she digs into the character of a town.
‘So, the changing character in each episode is the town – and obviously the people in it – but the town itself has a particular flaw.
Sharon added: “Most police dramas operate around the station wherethey have their colleagues and their routines, whatever they are, but they have their community.
‘For Ellis and Harper, it’s just them. And they work with the police station, but they’re always working with different people.’
Writing online about the show, one viewer penned: ‘Yes Can’t wait to See DCI Ellis.’
Another said: ‘Love this show. So glad there is going to be a new season.’
A third remarked: ‘Brilliant. Loved this.’;
‘When? Can’t bloody wait!’
