Prisoner who served time in jail the place Ian Huntley was attacked ‘will always remember’

Soham murderer Ian Huntley was attacked in HMP Frankland, a notorious Category A prison in County Durham. A former inmate has shared the brutal violence he witnessed

Evil Ian Huntley is battling for his life following a vicious assault at HMP Frankland that left him sprawled in a pool of his own blood. The Soham killer, 52, was reportedly found in his prison cell at approximately 9am yesterday (February 26) following the alleged attack within the infamous Category A facility.

Sources suggest he was struck with a metal bar in the prison’s workshop area. Former prisoner Ricky Killeen had previously disclosed just how perilous Frankland in County Durham can be.

He was transferred there aged just 21 and revealed: “My first impression of Frankland Prison was ‘WELCOME TO HELL’ inscribed inside the holding cell in reception.

“The other lads I was transferred with were s**ting themselves because of the rumours they had heard about how bad it is.” Ricky, who has since turned his life around and shares experiences on his Behind the Bars TV YouTube channel, already had contacts within the prison, which explained his calmer demeanour, reports the Mirror.

The ex-convict from Stanley, Durham, had been imprisoned for his involvement in a machete assault. The writer, who now assists former prisoners in rebuilding their lives, provided a chilling glimpse into the savagery he witnessed at Frankland, which has previously housed individuals such as Peter Sutcliffe, Fred West and Harold Shipman.

He said: “I witnessed loads of violence in there. The first day I was there I saw a terrorist get hot oil tipped over his head and seen his head melting.

“I saw numerous lads get stabbed in the neck and one got a coffee jar full of chilli powder rammed in his neck. There were mini riots in there when I was there as well but the hot oil incident was the worst I seen.”

He added: “Wakefield is the original ‘Monster Mansion’ but Frankland has become known that in the local press because it holds the worst prisoners in the country like Levi Bellfield, Ian Huntley and Wayne Couzens.” Ricky remained on the main wing but explained the VP wing, which houses paedophiles and infamous killers, was frequently the scene of the most brutal violence.

He alleged one paedophile was even “disemboweled” and that some horrific accounts were relayed back to prisoners through warders. The jail houses 800 inmates and many will never taste freedom again, with other notorious figures including Lee Rigby’s murderer Michael Adebolajo and Rhys Jones’ killer Sean Mercer.

Following the incident involving Huntley, who murdered 10 year old girls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, a spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Police were alerted to an assault which had taken place within HMP Frankland in Durham this morning.
