‘I found London’s quirkiest bar inside a church in the course of town’

EXCLUSIVE: One of London’s most entertaining bars is hidden inside a Grade II listed church building, right in the centre of the city’s bustling metropolitan streets

Amazing Grace London Bridge is a gorgeous space situated inside St Thomas Church, a historic building dating back to the 17th century, and they focus on live music, a menu bursting with flavour and an impressive drinks selection, which are three things they do very well.

Walk in and you’re greeted with a gorgeous art deco theme, from the sprawling curtains to the patterned floors that tie the entire room together with a luxurious 1920s feel. Punters can sit on the balcony at Amazing Grace London Bridge and watch the performance unfold from above, but we were nestled right in the back corner on high seats where every inch of the stage was visible – highly recommend going for this spot when you book.

The vibrant venue is a sight to behold as the tall ceilings and church-themed staging emphasise the true grandeur of the place, somewhere truly unique and hard to come by in a capital city that never sleeps.

Fall From Grace Thursdays is their weekly live music event and is certainly not one you want to miss. Everyone in the audience was beaming from ear to ear as the band played a medley of 80s classics, including Simple Minds’ Don’t You Forget About Me and the ever-iconic Never Ending Story by Limahl.

There wasn’t a still foot in the house as everyone clapped, danced and sang along with the incredibly talented band and their captivating vocalist, a positive vibe that set the tone for our evening. Our friendly waiter soon returned with drinks – Losing My Religion, a punchy glass consisting of vodka, peach liquor, orange curacao, lime juice and cranberry juice, and Mango Number 5, which mixes tequila, mango tequila, lime juice and mango puree for a taste of the tropical.

Both were well balanced and priced at £13.50, which we thought reasonable for London, however the star of the show was their mouth-watering bao bun deal at two for £13 or three for £18. Naturally, we went for six: two crispy cod, one tofu, one fried chicken, one pulled pork and one beef brisket.

The cod bao was paired with lime pickled onions, gochujang mayo and spring onions, a strong addition that balanced the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the fish, and the tofu comes with charred broccoli, crispy onions and black garlic for some added bite. However, the stand-out favourite was the pulled pork bao smothered in Korean BBQ sauce, Kewpie mayo and more of those perfectly pickled onions.

We were still feeling a little peckish so opted for the Korean potato bites, fluffy nuggets of heaven similar to tater-tots with a crispy coating and topped with gochujang mayo, sesame seeds, chives and Korean chilli flakes. Check out what else they have on offer here.

Make sure you head down to this stunning Grade II listed building for an evening of good tunes and even better food, ideal for any occasion whether that’s catching up with the girls or trying to impress your Tinder date.
