• At least six police vehicles surrounded the block of flats as armed officers retrieved firearms from their patrol car. One resident said: “Police with guns. I don’t know what’s happened but not allowed to take the kids to school.”
• Terrifying social media clips show the suspect in camouflage trousers and jacket walking around with blades, while a local shop appears completely trashed with smashed bottles across the floor.
• Local William Ramsay told Press Association: “He smashed the local shop, possibly stabbed two people unconfirmed. Armed police, dogs been here for about two hours.”
• Wester Hailes Education Centre has gone into lockdown, with a message to parents stating: “The school is in lockdown following an incident in the community this morning. The children are safe.”
