Disgusting burglar leaves poo and ridiculously apparent proof at crime scene

A disgusting burglar had a poo and left a letter addressed to himself in a city centre bar he’d broken into, a court heard. Ian Brown was tracked down by cops after leaving his name and and address at the scene.

The 38-year-old broke into Ruby Rae’s in Newcastle with a second man and ransacked the pub, causing around £2,000 worth of damage before making off with booze, beer mats, drill parts and flooring worth another £1,000 on December 12 last year.

Prosecutor Clare Haswell said: “The bar was a mess. Stuff was all over the tables. The locks on a horsebox where glasses were kept had been damaged. Bottles of alcohol had been drunk and opened.

“CCTV was viewed and two males are seen gaining entry by climbing a fence at around 3am that morning. The damage totalled £2,000. Staff had to throw out a lot of bottles of alcohol as they had been opened.

“Door handles and locks were damaged, flooring was damaged, 20 bottles of spirits were damaged, fridges were damaged, 24 bottles of prosecco and wine were damaged, a heater had been damaged and half a keg of alcohol had been damaged.”

The court heard that the bar lost earnings as it was forced to close on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the run up to Christmas in order to deep clean the premises.

Police and forensics arrived a day later and DNA was taken from inside, including from faeces which was used to identify Brown, the Newcastle Chronicle reported. He previously appeared before Newcastle Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to burglary.

Magistrates were also told that Brown had 179 offences on his appalling record, including 49 for theft. Alanna Wesencraft, defending, said Brown was autistic and homeless.

Ms Wesencraft continued: “They climbed over a fence, which doesn’t point to any planning or organisation. Mr Brown left correspondence letters at the site, so it was not sophisticated.

“Unfortunately, he’s currently homeless and, in December, he relapsed into drug misuse and committed this offence.”

Brown failed to appear before the court for sentencing earlier this month and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was caught last week and hauled before the court, where he was given a 35-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
