Man Utd fan who will not minimize hair till they win 5 in a row dangers main ‘hygiene downside’

Frank Ilett, known online as the United Strand, has not cut his hair for around 18-months, causing a health expert to issue a warning about his remarkable barnet

A Manchester United fan who is refusing to cut his hair until his side win five games on the bounce will only avoid major hygiene issues if he does one vital thing, according to a leading hair and beauty expert.

Frank Ilett, who goes by The United Strand on social media, began the challenge a whopping 513 days ago, and despite an upturn in form under interim boss Michael Carrick, the 29-year-old has of yet been unable to lop off his ever-growing barnet.

Followers of Illet have seen him go from buzzcut to beehive, gaining hundreds of thousands of fans along the way, all while raising money for the Little Princess Trust charity.

However, a leading hair and beauty has issued Illet a warning, stating that his personal hygiene could be at serious risk if he avoids doing one vital thing.

Danielle Louise, who works with beauty and wellness booking platform Fresha, warned that if Illet does not look after his scalp properly he could face serious issues.

“Cleanliness depends entirely on scalp care. If someone is washing properly and drying thoroughly, there’s no health concern.”

However, due to the size and mass of Illet’s insane barnet, Louise is advising him to be extra-careful, as that quatnity of hair can make things difficult when it comes to looking after your scalp.

“With thick, curly hair at this volume, product build-up can accumulate more easily. Occasional clarification is important. If the scalp isn’t cleansed properly, hair can become heavy or irritated.”

Despite emphasising that what Illet is doing isn’t necessarily unhealthy, Louise did explain that it was no surprise that the texture and shape of his hair had changed.

“Without trims, split ends multiply and travel up the hair shaft. That creates a frizz halo effect and can make the ends appear thinner. With curly or wavy hair, especially, the shape becomes more rounded and expanded because there’s no structure controlling the bulk.”

“What we’re seeing is weight and expansion, As hair gets longer, it becomes heavier. That weight can loosen curl patterns, flatten some areas and exaggerate volume in others. Without shaping, it naturally forms a rounded silhouette.”

“Hair grows from the follicle, not from the ends. On average, most people grow around one to one-and-a-half centimetres per month. Over 16 to 17 months, that could mean anywhere between 17 and 25 centimetres of new growth.”

With United currently having won three games on the bounce, Illet will be hoping his team can get over the line in games against Newcastle and Aston Villa.
