Powys faculty locked down as police swarm after ‘incident’
Maesydderwen Comprehensive School in Ystradgynlais implemented lockdown procedures after police received reports of a telephone threat on Monday morning
Officers have descended on a school following an incident this morning. Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed their presence at a secondary school in Ystradgynlais in Powys after receiving reports of threatening telephone calls.
A force spokesman stated: “We are dealing with an incident at Maesydderwen Comprehensive School in Ystradgynlais following a report made at approx 10.45am this morning. Officers are in attendance. More updates to follow.”
They subsequently confirmed: “We are dealing with an incident at Maesydderwen Comprehensive School in Ystradgynlais. Officers are currently working with the school following a report of a threat made on the telephone.
“As a precaution and to prioritise everyone’s safety the school implemented its lockdown procedure. Parents have been informed through the school messaging app.
“We can confirm there are no reports of anyone injured at the school and all pupils and staff contained on the site are safe and secure. Officers are at the scene. We will share more information as soon as possible.”, reports Wales Online.
Powys Council has acknowledged they are aware of the unfolding situation at the school, though they refused to provide additional details.
Ysgol Maesydderwen, which educates over 540 students from year seven through to sixth form, was placed under special measures – Estyn’s most serious level of oversight – in January last year.
