How Ian Huntley enraged fellow jail inmates – from Xbox to sick framed photograph of Maxine Carr
The Soham child killer is currently fighting for life in hospital after a brutal prison attack. Insiders have told how he is hated by other lags inside HMP Frankland who see him as a ‘moaner’
Ian Huntley has spent nearly 25 years behind bars for the brutal murders of two schoolchildren, and now is on death’s door. The murderer has been given a “5% chance of survival” after he was allegedly struck in the head by a “metal spike” during a brutal prison attack.
Huntley, one Britain’s most notorious child killers, has had a target on his back since he was convicted of the 2002 murders of 10-year-old girls Jessica Chapman Holly Wells. He’s survived getting his throat slit – twice – and getting covered in boiling water while serving a life sentence, but on February 26 at HMP Frankland Huntley received the most brutal attempt on his life yet.
Now, as he remains in Intensive care, the true extent of just how much he was hated by other inmates behind bars has emerged.
Insiders say he has been the butt of many attacks – from being punched in the face, kicked in the head, doused in boiling water and sliced with razor blades, with his life behind bars said to be “completely miserable”.
But it is not just because of his crimes that he is unpopular, with many believing he gets special treatment.
“There have been a queue of inmates who wanted to kill Huntley, including Darren Osborne, the Finsbury Park Mosque attacker.,” the source said.
He has been serving his time at HMP Frankland in the A-wing – a place held specifically for those deemed at high risk of attack and known as ‘enhanced prisoners’.
“Those on A-wing are ‘enhanced prisoners’ – meaning that in return for good behaviour and compliance with rules they have earned extra ‘privileges’ such as more visits, in-cell TV and higher canteen spending allowances,” a source added.
“He got an Xbox, and other things normal inmates aren’t allowed.
“Some think he was completely full of himself and many resented the ‘privileges’ he was allowed.”
Huntley was also known as a “moaner” with the source adding: “He is not a difficult prisoner in comparison to some of the people in Frankland. He moans – but they all do, really minor things can get some people quite upset like getting the wrong flavoured crisps or an Amazon parcel coming late.”
But in recent months it has been reported how Huntley has had a number of run-ins with prison staff, who he relies on to keep him safe.
“Earlier this year he had his Xbox games console seized after a search of his cell found unauthorised items thought to include DVDs, USB sticks and magazines in his cell,” the insider continued.
He also had a red Manchester United top confiscated. Friends Holly and Jessica were wearing the strip in the last-known picture of them taken on the day Huntley lured them to his home and killed them.
Jail staff also took framed photos of Huntley and his ex Maxine Carr, who gave him a bogus alibi after the murders, and made him move cell.
“There are no shortage of people who want to do him harm,” the insider added. “he has had loads of attacks on his life, and it is fair to say that should he survive this one, it will not be his last.”
