Writing for The Mirror, Chancellor Rachel Reeves says her ‘pledge’ to British families is ‘even more important in a world that has become yet more uncertain’

We have the right economic plan for Britain – a plan to cut the cost of living, cut debt, and grow our economy.

The Spring Forecast, delivered today, showed that inflation and mortgage rates are falling and working peoples’ wages are rising.

We’ve taken £150 off energy bills, rising to £300 for the most vulnerable homes. We’ve frozen rail fares for the first time in 30 years. We’re keeping prescriptions charges under £10 for the second year running.

2.7 million workers are getting a 4% pay rise from April. If you work full-time on the minimum wage, that’s £900 more in your pocket this year.

Our free breakfast clubs save parents up to £450 a year, on top of the £7,500 families save through 30 hours of free childcare.

Removing the two-child welfare limit means families can now get support for all their children, and 450,000 children lifted out of poverty.

Falling interest rates are saving families £1,300 on a typical new fixed-rate mortgage.

The opposition have no plan. They would take us back to austerity, cut public services and drive up hospital waiting lists, plunge half a million more children in poverty and scrap workers’ rights.

My pledge to Mirror readers is that this Government will step up – not stand back – to build a strong and secure economy that works for working people, even more important in a world that has become yet more uncertain.

We have the right economic plan for Britain, and it is a plan that will make working people better off.
