Richard Keys slammed for ‘tone-deaf’ beIN Sports feedback after Iranian missile strikes

Richard Keys has been slammed on social media after his post ahead of Tuesday night’s Premier League action amid the backdrop of the Iranian missiles

Richard Keys has been slammed for his “tone-deaf” comments ahead of Tuesday night’s Premier League action and off the back of Iranian missile strikes on Doha.

Keys, who works for Qatari based TV channel beIN Sports, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Thoughts & prayers with everyone who has lost loved ones during these past few days of madness.

“I know this sounds trite but hopefully the football tonight @beINSPORTS_EN can act as a distraction for a short time? Stay safe.” And fans have been quick to slam the former Sky host with Doha subject to Iranian missiles since the weekend.

“Sorry loads have died, but we have Bournemouth v Brentford tonight, so every cloud hey,” one fan responded. While a second said: “He’s one of one isn’t he…”

“All the class and sensitivity of a house brick,” a third noted. As a fourth replied: “Yep. I’m sure Bournemouth vs Brentford will put a smile back on everyone’s faces…”

And another added: “Just when you think you’ve seen everything, Keys blows it out of the water. Wow.”

Keys was forced off earlier this week after the UK government urged Britons in the Middle East to ‘seek immediate shelter’ following US strikes on Iran.

Following the joint assault on Iran by Israel and the US, Iran has launched attacks on Israel and Qatar alongside other regional targets.

“Due to reported missile attacks, British nationals in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates should immediately shelter in place,” they stated. “Remain indoors in a secure location, avoid all travel and follow instructions from the local authorities.”
