Galatasaray followers banned from Liverpool recreation at Anfield in Champions League as membership react

Galatasaray fans have been banned from their Champions League trip to Liverpool, UEFA has confirmed.

The Turkish giants are set to travel to Anfield on March 18, after they have welcomed the Premier League champions to Istanbul. It will be the second time the Reds have travelled there this season, losing out to Galatasaray in the league phase.

However, there will be no away fans for the reverse fixture after UEFA has banned Galatasaray for selling tickets to its supporters for one away match for the “throwing of objects, lighting of fireworks and crowd disturbances”.

The European governing body are punishing the Turkish giants’ fans for their behaviour during their 3-2 defeat at Juventus on February 25 – where they scraped through to the the last 16.

According to Italian media, Galatasaray fans clashed with home supporters and local police before the game. And a father and daughter had to be taken to hospital after they were struck by a firecracker.

Galatasaray has also been fined €40,000 (£34.7k) as part of the ruling by UEFA’s Appeals Body. In a statement, the club confirmed: “An appeal will be filed with the UEFA Appeals Committee against this decision.”
