UK climate as snow to blanket Britain with -6C chilly snap arriving in days
The latest weather maps suggest that parts of the UK will be hit by snowy conditions, with temperatures plummeting to as low as -6C in some areas on Friday (March 6)
The UK has been told to brace for snowy conditions, according to the latest weather maps, with temperatures dropping to as low as -6C in certain regions on Friday (March 6). WXCharts weather maps, compiled using MetDesk data on March 4, indicate that brutally cold weather will strike the nation before Spring makes its arrival.
The weather charts for Friday (March 6) have turned white across certain areas, signalling the potential for freezing conditions throughout multiple parts of the country. Based on the weather maps, regions surrounding Aberdeen, York, Newcastle, Carlisle and Middlesbrough are expected to face the snowy conditions around midday.
Whilst the northern regions of the country will endure the cold conditions, the maps indicate that areas near London, Southampton and Ipswich will witness highs of 15C during the same period.
Meanwhile, the Met Office’s forecast from Friday to Sunday states: “Largely dry and bright in the north on Friday and Saturday. Otherwise, often cloudy, with some outbreaks of rain, particularly in the south on Friday and west on Sunday.”

Providing the forecast from Friday to Sunday, BBC said: “On Friday, England and Wales will be mostly cloudy but generally dry, whilst Scotland and Northern Ireland see plenty of sunshine.”, reports the Express.
“Dry for most on Saturday, but turning generally cloudy, with the best of any brightness in the north. Breezy in the far north-west. Sunday looks set to bring variable cloud, with the chance of a few well-scattered showers in the south-west.”
Jo Farrow, a meteorologist at Netweather.tv, penned: “A new Atlantic front will be edging in from the west by Thursday, which will result in great contrasts west to east over the UK. Fine, sunny and very mild for England, eastern Wales and eastern Scotland until the cloud and rain arrives.
“Temperatures could be around 14 to 17 or even 18C. Further west, it will feel cooler, as the band of heavy rain and blustery winds edges in. Temperatures of only 7 to 10C.”
The Met Office has previously stated that predicting snow in the UK is more complicated than in continental Europe due to rapidly fluctuating conditions.
Its website read: “Small variations in temperature or wind direction can mean the difference between rain, sleet or snow. Meteorologists use high-resolution models to predict precipitation type, but these models can struggle with marginal situations where temperatures hover around freezing.
“Forecasters also consider factors such as precipitation intensity. Heavy bursts of precipitation can cool the air near the surface, increasing the chance of snow. Conversely, lighter precipitation may melt before reaching the ground. This fine balance makes snow forecasting one of the most uncertain aspects of UK weather prediction.”
