Woman, 80, handed jail sentence for forcing teenage boy to have intercourse along with her twice

A paedophile repeatedly committed indecent assault against a teenage boy in the 1980s, during which she coerced him into having sexual intercourse with her. She intimidated her victim and made him feel as though he couldn’t trust anyone to come to his aid.
Hazel Templeton, 80, was convicted of four counts of indecent assault against her victim, following a trial. The defendant forced the victim to touch her sexually and carry out a sex act on her. During a sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court, it was revealed that Templeton also had sex with the victim on two separate occasions. The court heard that the victim attempted self-harm at the time of the offences.
The defendant, currently residing at HMP Eastwood Park, has previous convictions for indecent assaults and gross indecency with a child, reports Wales Online. She was sentenced to two years and nine months imprisonment at Laganside Crown Court in Belfast, in 2025.
In a personal statement read to the court by prosecutor Jeffrey Jones, the victim said: “Following the guilty verdicts in this case I believed I would feel a sense of peace, stress levels would decrease and I would start to feel happy. Instead I have found myself gasping for breath, breaking out in cold sweats, and crying with an overwhelming sense of loss and shame for what I allowed to happen.
“After more than 40 years it is impossible for myself and the court to quantify the damage the defendant has done to me or my family. The multiple crimes the defendant continually visited upon me left me with trust issues, affecting my parents and partners. The emotional abuse far outweighs the physical. What she stole should never have been hers. She used her position of trust to threaten me, making it impossible to trust those who could have and should have been trusted to help.”
In defence, Sol Hartley stated that his client had led an otherwise law-abiding life, holding various positions such as within a PTA and other voluntary roles. He explained that the defendant’s husband didn’t want her to work, providing her with minimal housekeeping funds.
Mr Hartley argued there was no indication his client posed a future risk, adding that her 90-year-old partner was “petrified” he would pass away before her release and she harboured fears about dying in prison.
Upon sentencing, Judge Celia Hughes noted the victim had suffered significant psychological harm due to the abuse. The judge continued: “There is no evidence you have expressed any remorse or acceptance of your guilt for those sentences I sentence you for today.
“You have exploited (the victim’s) innocence for your own sexual pleasure. It’s quite shocking you behaved in this way to a (teenage) boy when you were a mother to similar aged daughters. You left him confused, fearful and at times suicidal.”
Templeton received a sentence of three years and nine months imprisonment, to run concurrently with her current sentence. The defendant was also indefinitely subjected to sex offender notification requirements.
