American girl who moved to England rapidly discovers the plain downsides of dwelling within the UK: ‘These are the cruel truths’

An American woman who moved to the UK has revealed three ‘harsh truths’ that she quickly discovered about life in England.

Ashley, originally from Texas, has been documenting the ups and downs of relocating to a new country on her TikTok under the username @themossycactus over the last three years.

In a recent video, she opened up about some of the biggest differences between the two countries.

She admitted that there were a few things in particular that took her by surprise when she moved across the pond, but she quickly learned she would have to accept them.

‘Three harsh truths you need to know if you want to live in England,’ Ashley wrote in a text overlay on the viral clip.

First, she explained that she immediately realized that she was going to have to ‘toughen up’ when it came to the weather.

‘The weather is wild [here], it’s all over the place,’ she explained. ‘It’s cold, it’s rainy, it’s hot, there’s no AC – and sometimes it’s all in the same day.’

Ashley then brought up the Brits’ famously snarky sense of humor.

She explained that the next ‘harsh truth’ she had to face after moving to England was that she would ‘never be as funny or sarcastic’ as the English.

‘You’re never going to be as funny or as sarcastic as they are. You can try, but they will probably always one-up you,’ she advised.

Finally, the last shocking discovery that Ashley had about life in the UK pertained to the choices of food, or lack thereof.

‘You won’t have 99 choices of cereal but your life will be better for it,’ she joked. ‘You’ll get about a quarter of that.’

Ashley’s video went viral, gaining more than 87,000 views and many people rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts.

Many Brits agreed with her, while others shared even more ‘harsh truths’ about calling the country home.

‘We don’t have 99 choices of cereal, but cheese…’ one person wrote.

‘As a Brit this is 100 percent correct. Also add we don’t do, nor demand, over the top customer service,’ shared another.

She also discovered that there were a lot less choices of cereal. Seen here is a stock image of some of the immense cereal choices at a California supermarket

‘We go to a pub, order a beer, pay the price… voila! No silly tipping just for pouring a beer.’

‘If anyone asks how you are… You’re always “good” nothing else is acceptable,’ someone else chimed in.

‘If you’re not accustomed to overcast then you’ll struggle,’ read a fourth comment.

‘We love sarcasm it’s part of us and also and especially self-deprecating good to laugh at yourself,’ said a fifth.

‘Totally agree – we can have four seasons in one day!’ penned a different viewer.
