Boy, 15, stabbed at Nottingham faculty as police swarm and air ambulance lands

A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed at a school in Nottingham, with another teenager arrested, police have today confirmed

A teenage boy has been stabbed at a city school. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed in a statement released on Thursday afternoon that the 15-year-old was attacked on the premises of Nottingham University of Science and Technology Academy (NUSA) in Dunkirk Road at approximately 1.30pm on Thursday, March 5.

The statement revealed he was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre with serious injuries whilst another 15-year-old was arrested, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

The two students are understood to know each other and police confirmed there is no evidence at this stage linking the incident to the national ‘School Wars’ social media posts published yesterday, officers stated.

Superintendent Chris Pearson commented: “This is obviously an unsettling incident to occur on school grounds, and we are working closely with NUSA.

“A 15-year-old boy has sustained a stab injury and been sent to QMC for treatment. His injuries are currently believed to be serious.

“His family will be supported by specially trained officers whilst a thorough investigation is underway. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with this incident.

“We know this is likely to cause alarm and distress across our local community especially for parents and pupils in the area.

“What we know so far is that both victim and suspect are known to each other and there is no information to say this is linked to the national ‘School Wars’ social posts.

“I also want to stress that there is no wider threat to any other pupils at the school. We will be working closely with the school over the coming days to establish what has happened.”

Video footage obtained by Nottinghamshire Live reveals at least three police vehicles are presently stationed outside the Nottingham University Academy of Science and Technology (NUAST) campus on Abbey Street.

A police cordon has also been erected outside one of the school’s entrances on Thursday afternoon (March 5), with numerous individuals gathered in front of the building.

An air ambulance has also reportedly touched down near the school grounds.

An email signed by Dave Thompson, head teacher at NUAST, explained a student was stabbed during this afternoon’s incident.

The message, seen by Nottinghamshire Live, was sent out to parents at 3pm.

It reads: “I am very sorry to inform you there was a serious incident at school today in which a student was stabbed.

“The incident in the school is now over and is being dealt with by police. We will be open tomorrow as normal.

“Clearly, this has been a very traumatic event for the whole school community and support will be provided for any staff or pupils affected.

“Our thoughts and best wishes are with our students and their families at this incredibly difficult time.”
