A high-profile politician who said he wanted to “rape a 12-year-old migrant with a dog” has avoided prison. Nicolas Jeanneté, 60, the former director of the French New Centre party described the messages as “verbal delusions” stemming from role-playing.
And he told a court he did not have any intention of acting on them. He was found guilty of possession of child sexual abuse material and drug trafficking. Prosecutors described the politician as “a kind of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”.
Seized files shown in court showed young children, including babies, who were victims of sexual acts. He claimed he was unaware of the presence of these images on his phone and computer and says he discovered them at the same time as the investigators.
Jeanneté, whose role as city councilor for Paris’ 15th arrondissement means he’s responsible for public safety and drug enforcement, tried to deploy use of illegal narcotics as a mitigating factor.
Jeannté admitted to heavy drug use during chemsex parties, including 3-MMC purchased in the Netherlands, with money from his elected positions.
He also confessed to taking designer drug GHB, acknowledging that he may have watched “filthy videos with animals,” while categorically denying having viewed any content involving children.
The prosecutor requested an 18-month prison sentence, nine months of which were suspended, a five-year ban on working with minors, and a three-year suspension of his civic rights.
The judges ultimately sentenced the defendant to 18 months of probation with mandatory treatment, a three-year ban on working with minors, and no suspension of his civic rights.
Since his arrest in 2023, Jeanneté has refused to resign. Suspended by his party and stripped of his delegated responsibilities, he still sits on the Paris City Council as an independent and is listed in the FIJAISV (National Automated File of Sex Offenders).
