The UK wouldn’t survive World War 3 and ‘nuclear winter’ – solely two nations truly would
A peer-reviewed study has found that only Australia and New Zealand would survive a nuclear war, as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East with fears of WW3
A recent study has revealed that only two nations would survive a nuclear conflict. This emerges as tensions have intensified in recent days with America and Israel, both nuclear powers, firing missiles at Iran.
Iran has been striking Tehran, the Israeli capital, whilst the Taliban in Afghanistan have launched an assault on nuclear-armed Pakistan. The UAE declared yesterday that it continues to intercept rockets directed towards Israel as Middle Eastern conflict persists.
This has triggered concerns that hostilities could potentially escalate in the coming weeks. And now a fresh peer-reviewed study has determined that nuclear warfare could wipe out roughly five billion people.
Fireballs could achieve temperatures of up to 100 million degrees Celsius whilst a nuclear winter would engulf every corner of the globe, state scientists in the Nature journal. They maintain that both Australia and New Zealand would survive.
Armageddon expert Annie Jacobson, author of Nuclear War: A Scenario, used scientific papers and defence experts to forecast what would occur should the world’s 12,000 nuclear weapons be deployed. On The Diary of a CEO podcast, she declared: “Hundreds of millions of people die in the fireballs, no question.”, reports the Express.
Annie clarified that it would also devastate regions that survived the initial strikes. She explained: “Places like Iowa and Ukraine would be just snow for 10 years, and so agriculture would fail. When agriculture fails, people just die.”
The expert proposes that around three billion people might survive the initial blasts, but their existence would be dramatically transformed.
She suggests that Australia and New Zealand could largely withstand the nuclear winter and continue to grow crops.
Annie further explained that setting off thousands of modern nuclear warheads would destroy a thin layer of gas that protects us from the sun’s rays. She maintains that alongside damage to the ozone layer, there would also be a threat of radiation sickness.
And whilst Australia and New Zealand may survive, she expects the residents there would have to live in darkness. She foresees people “fighting for food” and “living underground”.
Annie’s prediction follows a series of maps suggesting Iranian missiles could wipe out several nations, including some favoured holiday spots. Reports indicate that the warheads could reach distances of up to 1,240 miles.
This means popular holiday destinations such as Dubai, Cyprus, Turkey and Egypt could be within striking distance. On Thursday (March 5), the UK government’s first flights left the Middle East to aid in evacuating Brits.
The first flight departed Oman on Thursday afternoon. The government is continuously assessing its response to the situation in the Middle East.
It’s already been confirmed that the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Dragon is set to be deployed to the Mediterranean, potentially as early as next week, to bolster defences around a British military base at Akrotiri following an Iranian drone strike.
