Daily Star cracked Ian Huntley Soham murders exposing Maxine Carr alibi lie

The Daily Star helped catch Ian Huntley – after we exposed his lover’s alibi as a fabrication. The former school caretaker’s then-fiancée Maxine Carr informed police she was with him at their residence in Soham, Cambs, the evening Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman were murdered.

Huntley, who has today (March 7) been pronounced dead following a brutal assault at HMP Frankland, had always maintained his innocence and relied on Carr’s story to support his alibi. However, we uncovered that Carr was actually 111 miles away at the time – betraying Huntley with two other men at an 18th birthday celebration in Grimsby, NE Lincs.

Our reporters traced party attendees who provided us with time and date-stamped photographs revealing Carr embracing two other men that evening.

At the time, we delivered them to investigators and Huntley and Carr were apprehended. Huntley, 52, was found guilty of the double killings and imprisoned for life.

The notorious Soham murderer died on March 7 at the age of 52, bringing a grim chapter in British criminal history to a close. Huntley’s death comes after a brutal attack inside HMP Frankland on 26 February.

The disgraced school caretaker was reportedly bludgeoned with a spiked metal pole during a violent incident in a prison workshop.

Sources say Huntley suffered catastrophic head injuries and was left blind following the savage assault.

After clinging to life in a critical condition for over a week, Huntley was taken off life support on Friday (March 6) and pronounced dead the following morning.

Triple killer Anthony Russell, 43, is the prime suspect behind the attack.

Huntley had been serving a life sentence for the horrific 2002 murders of 10-year-old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, a crime that shocked the nation.

According to BBC News, police have now launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, as the prison service faces tough questions over how such a notorious inmate could be left so vulnerable.
