‘RIP little man’ as boy, 7, dies after being hit by a automotive on UK A-road at 5am

A seven-year-old boy was tragically killed after being struck by a car at 5am on the A38 near Lichfield, Staffordshire, with emergency services declaring him dead at the scene

A seven-year-old boy was tragically killed after being struck by a vehicle at 5am on the A38. The youngster was hit at around 5am, with emergency services racing to the scene near Lichfield, Staffordshire in a desperate attempt to save his life.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the A38 at the time of the collision to come forward. A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the A38 near Lichfield this morning (7 March). We were called to a report of a collision between a car and a child on the A38 at the junction with the A5206 at around 5am.

“Sadly, the child, a boy aged 7, died at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

“To help with the investigation, the A38 remains closed in both directions between the A5148 and A5 junctions, although this is expected to be reopened shortly.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators. If you can help, please call us on 101, message us using LiveChat on our website or you can email the collision investigators directly on [email protected] quoting incident number 109 of 7 March.”

Some have questioned why the child was out on the carriageway at such an early hour – a detail that Staffordshire Police have not yet disclosed, reports Birmingham Live. One commented: “RIP little one. Condolences to his family.”

Another added: “As sad and distressing as it is, what [on] earth was a 7-year-old doing out at the time of the morning[? ] Rip little man.”

While one simply said: “Terrible”.
