Fire breaks out at Stansted Airport Hilton lodge as individuals evacuated and crews rush in
A well-liked hotel at Essex’s busiest airport was forced to evacuate following a fire on Monday morning (March 9). Firefighters were summoned to the Hampton by Hilton Hotel at Stansted Airport just shy of 10.30am.
The crews confirmed a blaze on the third floor of the building, which boasts hundreds of guest rooms. The hotel was cleared as a safety measure whilst firefighters tackled the flames and secured the area.
All guests and staff were accounted for, with no reported injuries. The fire was successfully extinguished by 11.15am, approximately half an hour after the crews arrived on scene.

Firefighters remained at the location to air out the building using high-pressure fans to disperse smoke. An inquiry into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
Station Manager, Dan Byatt, commented: “We worked very closely with Stansted Airport, Essex Police and other partner agencies to manage the incident and ensure flights were not missed.
“Thanks to the quick actions of crews and our partners, we were able to bring the fire under control quickly and ensure everyone remained safe.”, reports Essex Live.
It comes as Glasgow Central station closed on Monday following the horror blaze in the city centre.
Fire crews were still dousing a building next to Glasgow Central station as a devastating fire has been compared to “something out of the Blitz” caused major travel disruption.
Glaswegians are processing their shock after the 19th century building partially collapsed following the blaze on Sunday night, including a dome which caved in Sunday night (March 8).
Many businesses have been destroyed in the fire, which a member of Scottish Parliament compared to the devastation from “the Blitz”. Nearby hotels were evacuated and roads were sealed off.
On Monday morning (March 9), fire crews used aerial platforms to hose water onto what remained of the building, as smoke hung in the air.
Only the facade of the building at the corner of Gordon Street and Union Street is left standing.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “Glasgow Central station remains closed following the fire in a building on Union Street on Sunday.
“While the fire is now under control, emergency services are still on site and we continue to support their response.
“The station will remain closed today and likely tomorrow. Timescales for reopening will only be confirmed once we are able to safely gain access and carry out the necessary checks.
“All services to and from Glasgow Central are currently suspended, and passengers should continue to follow alternative travel arrangements as advised by their train operators.
“We will provide further updates as soon as more information is available.”
