NEED TO KNOW: German maths genius reveals ‘fool-proof’ lottery system that could boost your winnings

  • A German maths genius has revealed his “fool-proof” method to maximising lottery wins that could help punters boost their chances of scooping prize pots.
  • Professor Christian Hesse told German news site Bild that while many people rely on sentimental methods for selecting lottery numbers, such as lucky numbers, birthdays or famous dates, “you’re better of using cold, hard statistics in order to have the best chance of winning.”
  • Hesse’s clever strategy starts with picking four numbers above 31, as these are less commonly chosen by players who pick sentimentally.
  • The four chosen numbers are then repeated on every lottery row you play, with two different numbers added to each ticket.
  • The system works by spreading the remaining numbers across all tickets so each appears once, covering almost the entire number pool.
  • The principle also works for the UK National Lottery, where players would choose 3 or 4 fixed numbers above 31 and use them in every ticket while rotating the remaining numbers across multiple lines.
  • While Hesse’s system doesn’t guarantee a jackpot win, it does make small to medium wins more likely and maximises the amount you win if your numbers do come up – though it requires buying multiple tickets to be effective.
