Majborough favorite for Queen Mother Champion Chase 2026 at Cheltenham Festival
Willie Mullins’ Majborough leads the betting odds for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham Festival 2026, with over 44% of punters backing the horse despite jumping concerns
The Queen Mother Champion Chase could hinge on Majborough’s jumping prowess at Cheltenham Festival on day two. He boasts the most impressive form but has previously erred over fences, most notably when finishing third in last year’s Arkle after nearly tumbling.
He displayed far greater fluency wearing first-time cheekpieces in the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown, where he delivered a career-best performance to defeat Marine Nationale by 19 lengths. Should he jump cleanly once more, he’ll prove difficult to topple.
Willie Mullins’ Il Etait Temps ranks second on the ratings but took a tumble last time at Ascot. He had previously conquered Jonbon at Sandown and in the Tingle Creek, but competes without his customary hood here.
L’Eau du Sud let supporters down in the Tingle Creek but performs admirably when fresh and captured the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham in November. He’s a powerful traveller and represents solid each-way value.
Quilixios hasn’t competed for a year but appeared destined for second place in this contest last year before crashing out at the final fence. Found A Fifty overcame Majborough earlier this campaign but suffered a comprehensive defeat in the Dublin Chase and carried legitimate excuses last time out.
The remainder face considerable deficits. Saint Segal and Libberty Hunter finished behind Lulamba at Newbury, though Libberty Hunter’s jumping remains questionable.
Novice Irish Panther lacks experience but confronts a significant leap in class. Captain Guinness claimed this prize in 2024 but hasn’t demonstrated form this season, whilst Brookie hasn’t appeared since November and appears to face an uphill battle.
Who is the favourite to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase?
It comes as little shock that Majborough leads the bookmakers’ betting for the Queen Mother Champion Chase with the horse available at best odds of evens with Unibet. Under jockey Mark Walsh, the horse is priced predominantly throughout the market at 10/11 with William Hill, Betfred and Sky Bet amongst others, whilst bet365 is offering 5/6 odds for the horse to emerge triumphant.
Presently, Majborough is the most supported horse heading into this contest with over 44% of wagers backing Willie Mullins’ charge, according to oddschecker.
