Ex-NFL star ‘used ChatGPT for recommendation’ after he allegedly killed his girlfriend

An ex-NFL star who has been charged with first-degree murder used ChatGPT for advice, according to prosecutors, after he allegedly killed his girlfriend

An ex-NFL star is said to have turned to ChatGPT for advice after he allegedly killed his girlfriend.

Darron Lee, who played for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs among others, appeared in Hamilton County Court on Tuesday, after Gabriella Perpetuo was found dead inside their Ooltewah home last month.

Lee, 30, has been charged with first-degree murder, and during the hearing, prosecutors shared body-camera footage from the crime scene where Lee, 30, tells officers he doesn’t know why Perpétuo was unresponsive.

He said: “I don’t know. I thought she would’ve said something but I have no idea. I was upstairs.”

Prosecutors also shared messages recovered from the ex-NFL star’s phone, showing an exchange with ChatGPT in the hours before he called 911.

According to prosecutors, Lee described a situation involving a fictional woman and asked the AI chatbot whether certain injuries could resemble wounds from a fall. The chat log was then presented to the court.

Lee allegedly asked AI if a slip-and-fall accident could cause puncture wounds. While, in another message, he disclosed the individual had “two swollen eyes” and was not waking up.

Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp argued that Lee was using the AI chatbot to help him cover up a crime scene.

However, Lee’s public defender, Mike Little, said the state’s case relied entirely on circumstantial evidence: “We know something happened inside that house but we don’t know what.”

Perpetuo’s family have set up a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral expenses and attorney fees. A post on the page reads: “The tragic and sudden loss of Gabriella has created emotional and financial hardships, any help makes a difference.

“We also hope to raise awareness and find ways to help prevent other lives from being destroyed by domestic violence.”
