UK-bound Ryanair flight diverted over being ‘unable to land’ after a number of makes an attempt

A Manchester-bound Ryanair flight from Lisbon was forced to divert to Newcastle after multiple attempts to land during 70mph winds, with passengers told the weather was ‘outside limits’

A Ryanair flight destined for Manchester was forced to divert to Newcastle after reportedly being unable to land due to high winds.

The Ryanair service from Lisbon seemed to make several landing attempts before altering its course this evening (March 12).

Information from flight tracking service Flightradar24 reveals the aircraft circling over Manchester Airport and again over Lancashire before it headed north to Newcastle, where it managed to land at the first attempt.

Flightradar24 stated in a post on X that the flight was ‘diverting away after multiple approaches’, adding that the pilot’s weather report ‘indicates showers and gusty winds’.

Much of the UK has been subject to a 15-hour weather warning today for strong winds and heavy rain, with gusts predicted to reach up to 70mph.

This morning, an easyJet flight bound for Edinburgh Airport was diverted to Manchester Airport after declaring an in-flight emergency due to the turbulent weather conditions and strong winds.

EasyJet confirmed that the winds at Edinburgh were ‘outside the limits of the aircraft’ and that coach transfers back to Edinburgh have been arranged for passengers, reports the Manchester Evening News.

This comes as a yellow wind weather warning is in place for much of Scotland today, with the alert remaining active until 8pm this evening.

Weather experts have predicted gusts of 50-55mph across Scotland and England, whilst some coastal regions and areas downwind of high ground could experience gusts reaching 60mph or even 70mph in certain spots.

A spokesperson for easyJet said: “Flight EJU7835 from Amsterdam to Edinburgh this morning was required to divert to Manchester due to winds gusting outside the limits of the aircraft and so we have arranged onward coach transfers to Edinburgh for customers.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our highest priority and while this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the weather.”
