Bruce Willis’ selfless gesture as he tries to search out dementia treatment whereas battling it
Wife Emma, 47, announced the Emma and Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver Support which aims to ‘raise awareness’ of the illness by ‘supporting scientific research and strengthening support for caregivers
Emma Willis has launched a fund for dementia research as her Hollywood action hero hubby Bruce continues to battle the devastating disease.
Briton Emma, 47, a former model and mum-of-two, hopes that the body can not only help to find a cure for dementia over time but als support the families of those struggling with the illness.
She attended The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration’s Hope Rising Benefit in New York on Thursday (12 March) where she was honoured with the Susan Newhouse and Si Newhouse Award of Hope. And Emma used her award win to announce the Emma and Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver Support which aims to ‘raise awareness’ of the illness by ‘supporting scientific research and strengthening support for caregivers’.
She has been caring for Die Hard superstar, Bruce, 70, since 2022 when he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and the family have been open about the difficulties of the neurodegenerative disease ever since. Speaking about her experiences and the fund, Emma said: “This journey has opened my eyes to the realities so many families face when a loved one is living with frontotemporal dementia.
“I believe deeply in the importance of supporting research while also showing up for the caregivers who carry so much every day. Through this fund, my hope is to help deepen understanding of FTD and ensure families facing it feel seen, supported, and less alone.
“Bruce has always led with generosity and heart, and I know he would be proud to see this effort helping families facing this disease.”
Bruce has appeared in more than 100 films including playing action hero John McClane in the Die Hard franchise and starring in other classics including Pulp Fiction, Armageddon, The Sixth Sense and The Expendables. He shares daughters Mabel Ray Willis, 13, and Evelyn Penn Willis, 11 with wife Emma and daughters Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 32, with ex-wife, actress Demi Moore.
It’s said the actor now struggles to speak, walk, or recall his iconic career.
