Man loses job after confronting Matt Lucas at London Underground station

Thomas Bourne, 39, filmed himself approaching comedian Matt Lucas at a tube station and lost his job as a fundraising consultant after the video went viral

A bloke who pursued and bothered Matt Lucas whilst he attempted to exit a London Underground station has revealed he’s been sacked over the episode.

Last month, British funnyman Matt Lucas, best known for his role in Little Britain with David Walliams, was ‘harassed’ as he departed a tube station.

Thomas Bourne, 39, confronted the Jewish comic, 51, after clocking him on an escalator. Bourne recorded himself ‘harassing’ Lucas apparently purely because of his Jewish background – only for the footage he shared online to spark widespread condemnation.

It has now emerged that Bourne has been dismissed from his position as a fundraising consultant as a direct consequence of the encounter. Bourne spoke to PoliticsJoe, during which he seemed to imply Mr Lucas was to blame for initiating the confrontation, reports the Mirror.

He stated: ‘I was going up the escalator and looked to my side and saw someone giving me an uncomfortable even hostile look and I realised it was Matt Lucas. My instant reaction – as anyone’s would be who was going to confront someone – was to pull out my camera phone and shout “Free Palestine! Free Palestine!” As a result of that video and a subsequent Daily Mail article I actually lost my job.”

According to MailOnline when quizzed about his familiarity with Matt’s history prior to the incident, Bourne replied: “Absolutely no awareness of his background” adding: “I knew he was in a show quite a few years ago, Little Britain. “When a mate informed him the clip was going viral on Twitter and that Mr Lucas was Jewish, Bourne told PoliticsJoe: “My heart absolutely sunk and I thought “Oh no, this is not good” because I could already picture in my head how this could be framed and how this could be interpreted, and the ramifications around that. So I immediately deleted the video knowing this could have bad ramifications.”
