Sickos depart flowers at paedo BBC star Jimmy Savile’s grave 15 years after his dying

Grieving families of loved ones buried near prolific paedophile Jimmy Savile are furious that twisted fans leave flowers on his unmarked grave 15 years after his death.

Photos show artificial flowers left at the burial site of the celebrity sex attacker in the seaside town of Scarborough, East Yorkshire. Savile was buried in a gold coffin with a £4,000 headstone with the vile epitaph: “It Was Good While It Lasted.”

When abuse allegations after his death surfaced, the headstone was removed, but that does not stop fans from visiting the remote site to pay their respects.

His unmarked grave has a larger plot than most at the Woodlands Cemetery and has the same size as two regular ones. It is positioned at the back and overlooks the rest of the cemetery.

Two sets of solitary artificial flowers have been placed at the plot which appear to have been there for weeks. But also the site attracts detractors, with abuse left at the site.

Words written on stones have the words: “I’m getting the word nonce.” This is a reference to a clip from Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights which has been used as a meme about sex offenders.

Cemetery staff say flowers are often left on the grave, including one regular female visitor, who could be a relative. One staff member said: “There’s a woman who will often leave flowers on the grave and so do others as well.”

The abusive stones were discovered last year. The staff member added: “People are unhappy at Savile being buried here.”

One family member of a relative at the grave, who did not want to be identified, said: “It’s sick and twisted. It’s beyond words. There’s dozens of people laid to rest here, it’s bad enough that Savile’s body is still buried.

“I think the body should be exhumed, frankly. It’s sickening. Who on earth would leave flowers at the grave of such a sick monster?

“I’d dig his body out and just dump it somewhere. He does not deserve dignity for what he did.”

Another relative of a relative there said: “It’s shocking. I have seen the flowers. People also leave abuse. It’s not fair on the families of other people buried there.”

Savile died aged 84 in October 2011. Allegations about his sexual offending surfaced the following year. The grave was removed a year after his death, in October 2012.

The triple headstone was removed due to “the impact the stone remaining there could have on the dignity and sanctity of the cemetery”.

The grave was made of a gold and granite steel headstone. He was buried at a 45-degree angle at the cemetery, facing the sea, at his own request.

Savile was found to have abused hundreds of people during his life, from the ages of five to 75.
