Creepy humanoid robotic ‘arrested’ by police after sneaking up on outdated girl at night time
The weird encounter took place at night in a residential neighbourhood of Macau, China, and ended with an elderly woman being taken to hospital and the robot carted off by police
An old lady was hospitalised after being frightened by a creepy humanoid robot which snuck up behind her at night.
The robot, which was escorted away by several police officers, could be seen appearing out of nowhere behind the elderly woman, causing her to jump out her skin.
According to local reports, she had been on her phone when she noticed the scary humanoid figure creeping behind her as she took a short walk near her home in Macau, China last Thursday.
Footage shows the lady confronting the machine before two police officers arrive on the scene and take the pesky bot away.
The lady reportedly shouted “You’re making my heart race! You’ve got plenty to do, so what’s the point of messing around with this? Are you freaking crazy?”, according to the Macau Post.
The robot, which belongs to a local education centre, is believed to have been left to roam the streets as part of a promotional campaign.
A representative from the centre reportedly told reporters that the robot had not intended to startle the lady, but had instead been waiting to walk past her.
“The woman stopped in the middle of the walkway to check her phone, and because the robot couldn’t get around, it simply waited behind her, that’s when she noticed the robot with its lights on, startling her, given the late hour”, the representative claimed.
The frightened woman was sent to hospital following the scare, although reports suggest she had not suffered any physical injuries and was later discharged.
The lady is not believed to be pressing charges against the robot’s operators, although police are said to have warned a man in his 50s to ‘exercise caution’. It’s not known whether this individual was in control of the robot at the time.
The robot in question is called a Unitree G1 model, and costs around £1,2000 to purchase. The bot, which has functioning hands and feet as well as a humanoid frame, can complete tasks such as cooking, running and complex conversation.
It stands at around 4ft 2, and sports a high definition camera and speaker.
