Man arrested at Manchester Airport as he throws drink at associate and threatens to kill her

Callum Coady was detained on board a plane at Manchester Airport after CCTV caught him throwing prosecco at his partner and making death threats

This is the shocking moment a violent boyfriend was apprehended at Manchester Airport after he splashed a drink in his girlfriend’s face and threatened to end her life.

Throughout their relationship, Callum Coady manipulated Daisy Martin into deleting her social media accounts, severing ties with friends and family, and dictated how she should dress, Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard.

The torment continued for over a year until Coady, 27, was filmed physically and verbally assaulting his girlfriend at Manchester Airport in August 2023. The incident resulted in Coady being arrested on board an aircraft.

Video footage released by GMP captures the moment he was taken into custody. In the video, Coady can be heard exclaiming ‘”oh my goodness” and “Jesus Christ” in disbelief as police inform him that he is being removed from the flight due to making death threats, reports the Manchester Evening News.

As the arresting officer handcuffs him, Coady can be heard questioning, “do I look like I’d kill someone?”. The clip continues and an audibly frustrated Coady can be heard exclaiming “I’m missing my flight now!” in an elevated tone.

Coady’s face is obscured in the video released by GMP, but he can be seen clad in a sports top and shorts with black shoes as he is escorted into the back of a police van.

Coady, of Larwood Avenue in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, admitted coercive control and received 16 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, at Manchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday (March 16).

He’s also been slapped with a five-year restraining order, must engage with probation services regarding future relationships and has been ordered to pay £200 victim compensation.

Airport CCTV captured vile behaviour.

Daisy Martin has been hailed for her ‘exceptional bravery’ after reporting the relentless abuse that resulted in his conviction. During their relationship, Coady grew progressively more violent and domineering, compelling Daisy to remove her social media accounts, scrutinising her internet usage, controlling her clothing choices, and limiting communication with loved ones.

Then on August 19, 2023, at Manchester Airport, Coady turned nasty after spotting a Facebook message.

Security cameras filmed him screaming at Daisy and hurling a glass of prosecco at her face before making death threats. Airport personnel stepped in, leading to his arrest aboard the plane.

When police questioned Daisy, she revealed the sustained abuse and presented officers with Coady’s messages. Police clarified that her experiences constituted coercive and controlling conduct, which Daisy admitted she hadn’t entirely understood previously.

In her victim impact statement, Daisy said: “After everything I went through, it has had a profound impact on my life. I struggle daily to understand people and often overthink even small interactions.

“I question whether people will treat me with respect after trusting someone who changed completely once, I let him close and controlled how I behaved, thought and lived. What happened has made me extremely wary of relationships and friendships. He made me forget what love should feel like, and I struggle to believe anyone could genuinely want something healthy with me.

“I feel anxious going places in case I see him, and I still look over my shoulder. My sense of safety is gone. He made me feel unlovable and affected my self-confidence. I overthink everything and notice changes in myself – getting angry more easily and snapping. I’m trying to rebuild myself.

“I blamed myself for not seeing the manipulation sooner. Now small things trigger doubt, and if someone seems distant, I assume I’ve done something wrong. I used to be open and secure, but that part of me feels damaged. This experience has deeply affected my trust and identity.”

Detective Constable Elizabeth Andrews, who previously worked with the Domestic Abuse Team in Stockport that spearheaded the investigation, said: “Daisy has shown exceptional bravery throughout this case.

“Her strength in coming forward, her honesty, and her continued co-operation with our officers has been vital in securing today’s sentence. The thousands of messages recovered from Coady’s phone provided a clear and disturbing insight into the level of control, manipulation and abuse she was subjected to, and they formed a crucial part of the evidence against him.

“It is important for people to know that coercive and controlling behaviour is a crime, and it will never be tolerated. If you are experiencing anything like this, please report it. You will be listened to, you will be believed, and we will do everything we can to protect you and bring offenders to justice.”

Daisy added: “Elizabeth’s support has been incredible; I wouldn’t have had the strength to be this brave without her by my side. It’s because of her that I now feel empowered to stand up for myself after everything that happened.

“She helped me understand that none of this was my fault, even when I believed it was. She never judged me and made me feel that others wouldn’t either. She is the reason I want to speak out.
