One Direction star Niall Horan’s awkward St Patrick’s day with US President

Niall Horan found performing for US president Joe Biden a “shock to the system” when he was invited to the White House on St Patrick’s Day. The 1D star is loved up and reckons he’s found “the one” after writing about his latest squeeze on new single

Irish star Niall Horan suffered an awkward St Patrick’s Day with a US President.

The One Direction star was invited to the White House to perform for Joe Biden on St Paddy’s day a few years ago, but found the experience a “shock to the system!”

Niall said: “I got invited to perform at The White House a couple of years ago which was absolutely bonkers. I couldn’t believe what was going on.

“It was like one-hundred and fifty people, all these dignitaries. And the President was honestly where the end of my little stage that I was on.

“So, anytime I kind of looked up at my hands when I was playing the guitar, I could have looked up a little bit and he was just staring at me.”

It was the most nervous Niall has ever been performing and needed a pint of Guinness to steady his nerves: “It was a bit of a shock to the system but I mean what an honour.

“But it was pretty cool to get invited there. There’s worse places to be on Paddy’s Day.”

Niall is back with new single Dinner Party which is more of a Valentine’s anthem because it is about meeting girlfriend Amelia Woolley.

In fact he says it shaped “the next six years of his life and hopefully the rest of it,” and hints the whole album is inspired by her!

“I love this song I wrote it last summer,” he told Capital Breakfast with Jordan North.

“Actually, we rented a house in Surrey, and we did a little week out there, a few of the producers and writers that I work with. So, we were out there for a week just writing tune after tune. And you spend a lot of time writing and nothing is coming. And then this was the one that I was like ‘okay, this is where the album starts from here’.

“Because my relationship started on the night that this song is about. And I realised that that dinner party became a bigger thing than just sitting around, getting drunk and having a bit of food.

“It’s become the next six years of my life and hopefully the rest of it. So, yeah, it allowed me to then go and write songs that were about all of the moments of this said relationship.

Finding the song that starts an album has been helps Niall find a theme.

I actually do that quite a lot,” he told I try and find the one that gives me the next idea. And once I’ve written that, you’re kind of off to the races if you like.”

Things are getting serious with Amelia and it feels like fate that she turned up to dinner with him.

He recalled: “I do remember her being a late addition through a mutual friend that we had. And she arrived then and we just got chatting.

“When you know you know.”
