Boy, 3, essential after ‘falling in’ swimming pool as two air ambulances rush to scene

A three-year-old boy remains in a critical condition in hospital after falling into a swimming pool in Pensby, Merseyside, with two air ambulances and emergency services rushing to the scene

A three-year-old boy is battling for his life after plunging into a swimming pool, police have confirmed. Emergency crews raced to Irby Road in Pensby on Tuesday, March 17, following a call received at approximately 12.55pm reporting that a youngster had tumbled into a swimming pool.

Two air ambulances touched down at Pensby High School on the same street, whilst Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service dashed to the location. The youngster was transported to hospital by ambulance.

In a statement from the police force today, Wednesday, March 18, a spokesperson confirmed the three-year-old boy remains in a critical condition following yesterday’s incident.

Officers are continuing to provide support to the family and investigations are ongoing to determine the complete circumstances of what occurred.

Pensby High School verified in correspondence to parents and carers that the air ambulances had touched down on the school’s premises but all pupils were safe, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Merseyside Police spokesperson stated: “We can confirm that a three-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital following a concern for safety in Pensby.

“We received a report from North West Ambulance Service that the child had fallen into a swimming pool at around 12.55pm yesterday (Tuesday, March 17) and emergency services, including paramedics and officers, attended the scene on Irby Road.

“The child was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition. Officers continue to support the family and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.”

It comes after Merseyside Police cordoned off part of a road outside a high school this morning, with police confirming a 15-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after reportedly being attacked by two people on Tuesday.

Merseyside Police confirmed a schoolboy is in hospital after he was attacked near Sefton Park on Tuesday, March 17 night. The force was called to Croxteth Drive in Aigburth at around 8.40pm with reports a boy, 15, had been attacked by two people.

The boy suffered several wounds to his legs and head and was taken to Alder Hey Children’s hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. Merseyside Police launched an investigation into the attack and the cordon remains in place while enquiries are ongoing.
