Adult mannequin spends £38k flying enterprise class as a result of financial system with 30R boobs is ‘hell’

Living with macromastia means flying economy is not just uncomfortable but impossible for Summer Robert, forcing her to pay a fortune for business class upgrades

For most travellers, upgrading from economy to business class is an optional luxury. For Summer Robert, however, it has become a necessary expense and what she describes as a “hidden tax” on a body that standard airline seating was never designed for.

Summer lives with macromastia, a rare condition that causes ongoing and excessive breast growth, which makes fitting in economy seats very difficult or impossible. With a chest that now measures a size 30R and carries over 25kg, Summer’s reality is far from the glitz and glam her social media might suggest.

“There is a real physical and financial toll of navigating a world that feels increasingly designed for a one size fits all standard,” she said.

The realisation that economy travel was no longer an option came during her first business class flight to Thailand. “It was like a new world,” Summer recalled.

“I just thought every time you flew it was hell and nothing could be done about it.” In a standard economy seat, the most basic functions of travel become a struggle.

“The lack of space in economy means I cannot do it,” Summer explained. “Even something so simple like putting the tray table down to eat my dinner is so difficult, it doesn’t go down all the way.”

Beyond the lack of surface space, the shrinking dimensions of modern aircraft cabins lead to uncomfortable physical contact. She continued: “The biggest struggle is comfort, especially on a long-haul flight.

“I always end up with the person next to me touching my boobs and it makes both of us uncomfortable. I need to get business or I won’t be able to eat my dinners on a plane or be touched by another passenger.”

While Summer (scotchdolly97) acknowledges that she is fortunate enough to afford the upgrades, the financial impact of what she calls her “Business Class Tax” is significant. She estimates that her annual travel spending would “sicken most”.

As an adult content creator, travel is a regular and necessary part of her work. Over the past two years, she believes she has spent well over $50,000 (£38,000) on business class flights alone.

A single flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne recently cost her $14,686 (£11,000). This year alone, she has flown the Scotland-to-LA route twice, in addition to her travels to Australia, further adding to her significant expenses.

Summer also describes the airline industry as engaging in what she calls a “money grab”, arguing that carriers are intentionally reducing seat sizes to push passengers into higher-priced tiers. She believes airlines will continue shrinking seats so that travellers like her are left with no choice but to pay thousands more in order to travel comfortably.

The lack of space in economy isn’t just about comfort, it’s about safety.

Summer recently suffered severe burns when boiling hot tea spilled onto her chest because a cramped environment lacked a stable, usable surface. She said: “I burnt my boobs literally two or three weeks ago.

“I spilled hot boiling tea on them and I burnt them completely. My boobs are red raw burnt right now.”

The physical weight of her condition also makes her highly sensitive to heat. “I get really, really warm because I’m carrying a lot of weight in my chest,” she said.

“In a crowded cabin, this physical strain becomes unbearable.” In public, she says she frequently experiences unwanted attention and harassment.

Summer recalls a recent layover at London Heathrow while travelling from Los Angeles to Glasgow, describing a disturbing series of events that left her feeling unsafe. Despite hundreds of empty seats in the terminal, a stranger sat directly next to her.

The model said: “He goes, ‘You’re beautiful, your body’s beautiful,’ and I’m like, for f***’s sake, just give me a minute to just decompress.” The man repeatedly tried to persuade her to leave with him for Berlin, forcing her to have a friend call her just to create an excuse to safely distance herself.

The encounter became more unsettling when a British Airways employee allegedly approached her while claiming to be on duty. According to Summer, the staff member sat beside her and made inappropriate remarks about her appearance, stating, “You’re very pretty in pink, you’re wearing a lot of pink today.”

She describes the interaction as crossing a professional boundary later, outside a Prada store, when he allegedly asked, “If I buy you a bag, do I get to see them?”. “I was like, ‘You’re at work, bro,'” she said.

The ordeal became more terrifying when Summer arrived to board her flight. “Half an hour later when I walk to my gate, he’s at my gate checking me in,” Summer shared.

“Honestly, it was so scary.”

She added: “I want people to know that it isn’t all glitz and glam. It’s fun for sure, I love my body so much, but there are definitely downsides.”

Summer is calling on the airline industry to prioritise passenger dignity and comfort over maximising seat capacity. She believes that business class should be made more affordable and accessible to better reflect the needs of travellers.
