Jamie Carragher left in stitches as red-faced Man United legend alongside him by accident makes X-rated joke stay on TV
Jamie Carragher left his CBS colleagues in stitches after pointing out an accidental X-rated joke his punditry colleague Peter Schmeichel made on the live broadcast.
During their coverage of the Champions League on Wednesday night, the Liverpool and Man United legends were working alongside each other at Anfield.
When Kate Scott cut to the pitch-side pair, Carragher was asked if he thought the game ‘would be a breeze’ for the Reds.
Carragher replied: ‘I’ll be absolutely fine. And the reason I’ll be absolutely fine is because, when I come on the road with uncle Pete, every time I’m with him, he ends up coming late… I’m always there early, and that’s why I’m nice and cool, I’m not flustered. I get here with plenty of time!
Schmeichel retorted: ‘Listen, I always want to come early…
Seizing his opportunity, Carragher replied: ‘Do you?’
Jamie Carragher and the CBS pundits were in stitches at the Peter Schmeichel innuendo
Schmeichel realised the innuendo he’d accidentally made, while Clint Dempsey, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards fell about laughing in the studio.
The camera panned to Carragher, who performatively ran away after the gag, leaving Schmeichel red-faced.
‘Oh my God. How do I even go on from that?’ Carragher then said.
‘Hopefully not longer!’ Richards replied.
Schmeichel’s son Kasper then walked into shot, before joking: ‘I’m here, mortified, next to him at the moment. Cheers for that!’
The light-hearted nature of the CBS broadcast team on Champions League nights is a key part of their coverage.
On Wednesday it was no different and the game itself was one Carragher delighted in, with Liverpool overturning their first-leg deficit to sweep Galatasaray aside and set up a quarter-final clash with PSG.
Afterwards, Arne Slot reflected: ‘If you get to the late stages of the Champions League, you know one thing for sure is you are going to face PSG because they are an incredible team.
‘We had difficult games against them last season, here at Anfield it was a fantastic game [PSG knocked them out on penalties] the best game I have managed in my career, how football should be played, both teams just trying to entertain the fans.’
‘We were the only team that brought them to extra-time and penalties. But they have shown this season they have not dropped their standards. It was hardly possible for them to improve but they’ve been very impressive until now.
‘But we showed tonight we can perform at the levels we were at last season and that gives me confidence. I don’t think they will be that happy to play for us after seeing our performance tonight.’
