Fuming Rachel Reeves slams ‘planless’ Donald Trump’s Iran conflict for leaving Brits skint

Rachel Reeves has hit out at Donald Trump for launching the Iran war without a “clear plan” to end it, as the Middle East crisis pushes up UK fuel and energy costs

Rachel Reeves has expressed her fury towards Donald Trump over the Iran war. The Chancellor criticised the US President for initiating the conflict without a “clear plan” for its resolution.

She told Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2: “I’m angry that Donald Trump has chosen to go to war in the Middle East – a war that there’s not a clear plan of how to get out of.”

It comes as the Middle East crisis, which has strained relations with the US, has driven up fuel and energy costs for Brits. Sir Keir Starmer cautioned at a Downing Street press conference this morning that the war will “affect the future of our country”.

However, he sought to reassure people that there would be a “long-term plan” in place to emerge a “stronger and more secure nation”, reports the Express.

He said: “It is now clear that the impact of this war will affect the future of our country.

“So, today, I want to reassure the British people that no matter how fierce this storm, we are well-placed to weather it and that we have a long-term plan to emerge from it a stronger and more secure nation.”

Sir Keir also defended Nato after Mr Trump said he is considering withdrawing the US from the military alliance after allies failed to join the Iran strikes.

It follows the US President telling Britain to “go and get your own oil” yesterday.

He posted on Truth Social: “All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.

“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”

Iran’s selective blockade of the vital oil and gas shipping route the Strait of Hormuz and its attacks on the Gulf states has pushed up global energy prices.

In the latest sign of the risk to shipping in the region, a Kuwaiti oil tanker was attacked off the coast of Dubai.
