Inside Pam Bondi’s ‘mysterious’ relationship with man Trump ‘hates being round’
Pam Bondi has been with partner John Wakefield for nearly a decade, but they’ve never publicly confirmed marriage despite Trump calling him her ‘husband’ at her swearing-in ceremony
Pam Bondi may have exited her role as Attorney General, but will have a man who Donald Trump reportedly “hates being around” at her side.
Bondi, who is barely recognisable in strikingly different throwback photos, first publicly acknowledged her relationship with John Wakefield, a private equity executive who has been romantically linked with Bondi for nearly ten years, back in 2017.
She posted on social media about a concert they attended with friends. Since then, Wakefield has occasionally been seen with her at public and political events, including her swearing-in ceremony as US attorney general in February 2025. This comes as Bondi was dramatically sacked by Trump for a humiliating and scandalous reason.
Wakefield operates in the finance and real estate investment sectors. He is a founding principal of Varner Wakefield Equity Partners, a private equity firm primarily focused on real estate investments across the United States.
Before establishing the firm in 2015, Wakefield worked as a banker and later held the position of vice president of corporate business development and strategy at Lykes Bros. Inc., according to his professional history, reports the Mirror US.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Charleston in 1994, and later obtained a degree in international business from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in 1998.
Much of Wakefield’s personal life stays out of the public eye. Social media posts suggest he has three children, though limited information about his family or past relationships has been publicly verified, PEOPLE reports.
Bondi, who previously experienced high-profile romances and marriages in her earlier years, has offered only sporadic insights into her relationship with Wakefield. In October 2017, she shared a photograph from a concert trip, captioning it: “Great night at Bruno Mars w Chillura’s and friends.”
Wakefield’s most prominent public appearance alongside Bondi occurred during her 2025 swearing-in ceremony. He stood next to her and held the Bible as she was sworn into office. During subsequent comments, President Donald Trump mentioned Wakefield directly.
The president remarked: “I just want to introduce her very, very handsome husband. I hate being around him. He looks too good. He’s been a tremendous factor with Pam and just a beautiful relationship.”
Despite the comment, neither Bondi nor Wakefield has publicly verified that they are wed.
Throughout the years, Bondi has periodically posted pictures of the pair at functions and journeys, including festive occasions at the White House and a visit to Ireland in 2022.
However, generally speaking, Wakefield has kept a modest public presence, even while Bondi’s political career has maintained her in the national limelight. Although he seldom speaks in public, Wakefield’s career in private equity and property investment seems to be the mainstay of his professional life, providing the key insight into who Bondi’s long-term partner is beyond his presence at her side.
