Channel 4 compelled to apologise after surprising on-air cock-up throughout boat race

Victorious Oxford cox Louis Corrigan did not think about being live on national TV when he bellowed, ‘what a f****** awesome day!” moments after his team’s big win

Channel 4 were forced to apologise live on air during their Boat Race coverage after some spicy language was accidentally aired. Victorious Oxford cox Louis Corrigan did not think about being live on national TV when he bellowed “What a f***ing awesome day!” moments after his team’s big win.

Host and former Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing made an apology to the camera straight after the excited outburst. Oxford Women had ended a barren run of eight consecutive defeats to their Cambridge counterparts, but ended the losing spell with a victory on Saturday April 4, and they were clearly thrilled.

Team captain Heidi Long, said: “I’m quite overwhelmed.” Laing swiftly apologised to viewers at home, with Clare Balding promptly following suit by saying sorry for the inappropriate language as she covered the men’s race.

Former Oxford star Pete Reed was buzzing after his alma mater’s victory.

The three-time Olympic gold medallist, 44, said on Channel 4: “That was so incredible.

“They’re making the memories of a lifetime.

“I am so proud of them and hopefully that’s a change of momentum for the Dark Blues.”

It was Oxford’s first Women’s Boat Race triumph since 2016.

The men’s Boat Race followed soon after with heavy favourites Cambridge taking an early and comprehensive lead over Oxford that they could not recover from. The latter were also warned on several occasions by the umpire before he also waved white flags in the direction of the eventual winners.
