Sadiq Khan left fuming after police leaves bag stuffed with weapons outdoors his home

The London Mayor has blasted the police after a bag of guns was left out on the street outside his house in a shocking security blunder

Sadiq Khan has hit out at police after a massive security blunder saw a massive bag of guns left outside his home. It’s believed armed guards who had been stationed outside the Mayor of London’s home simply forgot the holdall, which was later found on the kerb on Tuesday evening.

Khan, who receives 24-hour armed protection after repeated threats to his safety, said: “This is a very serious incident, which has been referred to the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards. The Met must now take all steps to ensure an incident like this never occurs again.”

The married dad of two revealed how he has 15 police officers on a team keeping him safe “around the clock”. It has been reported five Met Police officers have since been temporarily suspended from service, as officials conduct a review into what happened.

A pregnant passer-by who saw the bag at around 9:40pm riskily kicked it before telling her partner Jordan Griffiths about her suspicions. He took in the haul, to get it off the street, which included an MP5 semi-automatic Heckler & Koch carbine, a Glock pistol, Taser and ammunition.

The pair then called the police. Jordan said: “My partner saw the bag sitting in the road by the kerbside and became suspicious.

“She went over to it and kicked it to see what it might be. But it was really heavy and didn’t move. It was lucky one of the guns inside didn’t go off or else she and our baby due next month could have been shot and killed.

“I went out to have a look and picked up the bag and it was really heavy.

“I thought it might be full of coins and took it inside using both my hands because of its weight.

“I took it upstairs and put it on my bed and opened the bag up. I could not believe my eyes.

Jordan laid the guns out on the bed and took a photo of them with his phone before calling cops.

In a statement, a spokesperson from the Directorate of Professional Standards said: “A member of the public called police after finding a bag containing Met-issued firearms and a Taser on a street in south London.

“Within seven minutes of the call to police, officers arrived at the scene and safely recovered the items.

“At this stage it is believed the bag was misplaced by on-duty officers a short time before the member of the public located it.”
