‘At 14-1 he’s good worth within the Irish Grand National’ – Jason Heavey’s Monday ideas

The Daily Star Chief Tipster thinks a British horse can plunder the day’s big race at Fairyhouse in Ireland on a busy day of Easter Monday racing

CHAMPION jockey Sean Bowen can plunder the BOYLE Sports Irish Grand National for the second year running on ONE BIG BANG (5.00, nap).

The tough-as-teak British raider has 29 rivals in a fiercely competitive contest but has a perfect profile for this staying test.

Bowen steered Haiti Couleurs to a famous victory 12 months ago in this race and while One Big Bang is not in that class he is an admirably consistent young staying chaser.

He has only had four runs over fences but has an upward profile and his latest effort when third in the National Hunt Novices’ Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival was a sound performance.

One Big Bang is trained by rising star James Owen and will definitely get every yard of the trip – and at 14-1 he is a fair each-way price.

Fellow British challenger The Jukebox Kid has been well backed and should go well while Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins train 13 of the field between them.

Paul Townend has opted to ride Kiss Will who has attracted strong support.

I also like Born Braver at a big price to outrun his odds (33-1) and he is an each-way play.

He dotted up eight days ago at Downpatrick and only gets into the race due to his 8lb penalty.

Paul Nolan’s JOYAU DE THAIX (5.40) is a strong fancy in the race after the Irish National.

There are six UK races on ITV and at Kempton GOBLET OF FIRE (3.30) makes plenty of appeal in the Virgin Bet Handicap off bottom weight.

CANDONOMORE (5.15) is another with sound claims. The five-year-old is becoming well handicapped and ran a decent race last time out and has Rossa Ryan in the saddle.

The jockey can also score on FINAL NIGHT (4.40) who was a decisive winner at the track when last seen.

I’m chancing the improving PLAGE DE HAVRE (2.55) in the Listed Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Magnolia Stakes. Andrew Balding’s five-year-old remains unexposed and at 6-1 looks worth a punt against the shorter priced Gethin and Devil’s Advocate.

The BetGoodwin Sussex Champion Chase at Plumpton is also live on ITV and it is a chance for EDWARDSTONE (2.35) to gain a deserved success.

Now aged 11, the former Arkle Trophy hero retains enough ability to see off some decent but inferior rivals – despite carrying top weight.
