A mum and her 10-month-old baby were among three people killed when a massive tree collapsed during an Easter egg hunt in northern Germany on Easter Sunday

A 10-month-old baby girl and her mum were among three people killed during an Easter egg hunt. Tragedy struck when gale-force winds caused a tree to fall down in northern Germany, according to police.
Approximately 50 people from a nearby residential facility for new mothers – including expectant women and children – were participating in the event in woodland. It happened near the town of Satrupholm around 11am when a 30-metre (100-foot) tree fell on the group, police revealed in a statement.
Four people were trapped beneath the tree. A-21-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl received immediate medical attention but sadly died at the scene, while the woman’s 10-month old daughter later passed away in hospital. An 18-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital.
The facility is part of the state-funded child welfare system and provides support to pregnant women and new mothers in need, as per its website. Bereavement counsellors were dispatched to the scene.
Images from the scene published by the Bild news site depicted numerous Easter eggs strewn across the ground and two of the victims covered with white sheets.
The German weather service had issued a high winds warning for the area.
