A beauty queen and her six-year-old son were allegedly stabbed to death by a neighbour after she “rejected his advances”. Karielle Lima Marques de Souza, 23, and her son Nicolas were rushed to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Police probing their murders believe they were stabbed to death by Rolemberg Santos de Pina, 32. He had reportedly been trying to get close to Karielle, who was already in a relationship and turned down.

He lived on a street behind Karielle’s home and is said to have struck while her partner was out at work on Sunday. Local media reports he went to her house uninvited and stabbed the pair before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

Neighbours rushed the pair to a local hospital in Ibirapitanga, Brazil, but the pair tragically died of their injuries at hospital.

De Pina went to a remote property near Maraú, where he took his own life, local media reports.

The knife used in the double killing was found beside his body.

The Military Police of Bahia said officers were called after Karielle and Nicolas were taken to hospital with knife wounds.

Police investigating the horror were tipped off that a body had been found on a farm in the Piabanha district, in the rural area of Maraú. It was later confirmed to be de Pina.

Police continue to investigate what may have prompted the attack.

In 2025, Karielle represented Ibirapitanga in the Deusa do Ébano (Ebony Goddess) contest held in Salvador.

She was a capoeira performer and hair braider, and is survived by another child.
